Ugh, seriously, where does one even start with a blog?! ... I started playing 40K way back in the days of 3rd ED. Back then I played a CSM World Eaters force. I was terrible at painting and they rarely saw action. Mostly due to the fact that there was barely anybody in the awesome town of Alamogordo, NM to play

After moving back to Germany I sold everything, except for my Black Library collection. Several years later I stumbled into the local GW store, had a look around and left with the 5th ED rulebook. Two days later I bought some Daemons!

Its been about a year and a half since and Ive been spending plenty of time building and converting Daemons, and since their release, Necrons. I don’t mind spending ages converting stuff, but Im possibly the slowest painter ever. Recently, new colleague moved into my office. His hobby background is basically the same as mine, so it took little time for me to talk him back into the hobby. Hence the reason for this blog! We set-up some rules to get our armies painted. Approx. 250pts. a month.

It will be slow-moving, but at least there will be some progress. I figured it was time for me to share some of the things Ive built and painted before I head off to current projects.

I play a Tzeentch-heavy army with some Khorne and Nurgle spinkled in here and there. Im not that big of a Slaanesh-fan, so Im holding back on those. I do have a couple of the DE khymeras that I proxy as so-called Bloodbeasts (Khorne-themed Slaanesh fiends)

Things that are done:

21 Bloodletters (Claw & Murder)
These were the first minis I painted after the 6 year hiatus. I believe theyre alright for what they are They are split into several squads usually. The FW herald was the latest addition. I use him as regular Bloodletter though.

9 Horrors and the Changeling (Dust & Bolt)
After painting the ‘letters I got sick of red! Plus I felt that Tzeentch would give me the ability to expand my painting a bit more. Squads are marked by different colored appendages. The blue-handed fellas go with the Changeling, the blue-tentacled ones are a different squad! That’s a theme that I will repeat on the other squads as well!

20 Plaguebearers (Decay & Rot)
I love these guys in gameplay, but Im not so big on painting them. The “general” was painted for a contest. I tried some different techniques on him so he stands out a bit more! They also include some conversions here and there since I got sick of using the same models over and over … Duh!

Bloodgrinder
This was the first “serious” conversion I did! This dude includes the regular defiler kit, an axe from heresy miniatures (thanks Dakka!), some GS and a bit of stuff from the Daemon Prince kit!

Tzerald on Chariot – N'zall (the Twisted)
Luckily, I was able to get my greedy hands on one of the limited edition Tzeentch sorcerers on disc! Since the chariots kick a$$ I had to build it. Not really one of the biggest conversions ever, but effective enough I guess.

People keep asking me about the base though, especially the size. Im more of a casual player (though I do participate in the local store tournaments) and hence have no issue with loads of models being able to assault me… I only play them in 40k. I like my bases round!!

The Blue Scribes
I had some spare parts flying around and so decided to build these guys. I played them once and prefer Tzeralds, but it was a lot of fun to build and paint them!

Next up will be the current WIPs/PIPs ...

Things Im currently working on:

Tzeentch-Grinder –
Biggest conversion I have done so far! Basically, it consists of a Necrosphinx AND a Grinder-Kit! The staff is homemade, so are the armoured plates on the back legs. I greenstuffed those. My biggest concern was the left arm, which is almost entirely green stuff. We have a really talented guy in the store that passed some of his GS-foo on to me! Surprisingly, the arm is now more detailed than the original, but I will live with that. Still have to do some touch ups here and there, and then he will be ready for some paint! The inspiration for the hand came from the FW lord of change.

Bloodcrushers
Everyone keeps telling me I need some Khorne-Cows. So I picked up a few and assembled them as per the instructions. They didn’t thrill me all that much though, so I decided to build a second squad and do some conversions! I went with axes, seeing how ‘letters used to have those! I also included the Skulltaker since I was able to procure one at a rather low price. I got 2x5 squads right now, the goal will be 2x8. I will post detail shots later!

Horrors
I cant get enough of these fellas. I had so many ideas for conversions, I just had to keep on building some. Colors for these have not been set yet, but I think 10 (2 squads of 5) will be blue! Detailed shot will follow here as well.

I got some more things in various stages of WIP/PIP, but I think this is quite a chunk of stuff to begin a blog! Ill hold back on some stuff (including Necrons – especially since Im barely doing any conversion work on those) for now. However, Im looking forward to posting more progress soon.

Don’t hold back on your feedback! Im all for creative criticism!

Current PIP:
10 Horrors (purple-green) These guys have all been converted using parts of the new Khemri kits! Nothing big, just weapon-swaps and a different head. Squads will be separated as described before.

Tzerald on Chariot – Tiz'Kah the Enchanted
Second chariot has its base and disc done. It will be pulled by one screamer, sorcerer is a conversion based on the new Tzeentch plastic dude. The disc is from the new finestuff herald kit! I did some conversion on the disc as well. The bottom has been sculpted with a surprising lack in creativity. Im not saying that mines all that much better though. As before, the base is huge … I had that rock thing lying abouts and just had to use it Screw LOS

h

PS: Ill try to get some better shots next time. The flash really changes colors and some shots just dont show enough detail. sorry about that ...

No replies and no updates. Not that good of a start I suppose.
I have been busy though.

I was actually done with the rider of the disc several days ago. Instead of varnishing him, I ended up rebasecoating him. Uuuups. Yeah, that really pissed me off. I ended up having to spend the entire weekend finishing the January batch of stuff. But I did get it all done in time.

Some WIP shots of the herald:

And some of the final results:

And a quick shot of the 5-man Horror squad:

In other news, I just got my orders from puppetswar, as well as some stuff I ordered from dragon forge.

Got three of those cyberbikes, non-scarabs, as well as some heads from puppetswar. Bonus for the three bike order were the three bases pictured. All in all, some really nice stuff. I think the quality is pretty good for the price. Sure, theres some flash here and there, but nothing too serious. Of the 10 heads, 1 has a bubble, and the back of one is missing a bit of detail.
The bike-weapons, as well as the beetles will require some cleanup, and those beetle-legs are pretty frail. I did get three extra though! Both weapon options for the bikes are included!

Dragon forge delivered a base, basing material and some hose like things for some conversions. I suppose the most important here would be the 120mm base that I got ...

So what in the world would someone need a 120mm base for?? Well... christmas presents!
Spoiler:

Whats up next?
For this month I have 3 flamer daemons, as well as another 5er squad of horrors. Possible 2 actually! As for modelling, I plan on putting the finishing touches on Warpshifter, the Tzeentch-Grinder. I really want to paint that fella come March.

Also, I realize that the pics arent the best and maybe even a turn-off for some people. Bear with me here ... If anyones got any suggestions on how to improve those skills, Id greatly appreciate it. Im using a Sony Cybershot DSC-W50. Im guessing I need to get some better lighting going, as well as a tripod.

Thank you sir!

Update: I finally picked up a photobox, as well as a tripod!
Im afraid I still need some lighting, but until then, heres an update with some autoadjusted images!

Quality is better, but Im sure actual lighting will improve it even more!

Newest addition to the forces and part one of my Feb goals:

I will update the first post with some new/better pictures asap!!

These guys minus the green are exactly the way I would do any Tzeentch Daemons. I'm liking this blog.

You should post some of those
I already saw your Eldar, and that green/white scheme looks ace!

EDIT: I updated the first post with some "better" pics. Weirdly, these didnt come out as well as the flamer ones! Still got some tweaking to do with the cam setup ... Sorry about that!
