Skull beads. It's a bead shaped like a skull, roughly 8-9mm in size. Got a bag of them a number of years ago.
I have a post on my HWT bases that holds one skull. Take a single wound, put the skull on it. Take two (or more) or a single ID wound, and the entire base is removed.
My Dreadknight has a post that holds 3 beads. When it loses the last of its 4 wounds, the model is removed.
I haven't got around to doing the Eldar wraithlords up yet (to this system).

Pictures, no. I don't tend to photograph stuff as I go. It's more of a later thing when I get around to it. It's just a short length of 3mm styrene rod. I think the Dreadknight one is just a length of 3mm round sprue I had laying around. Nothing hard to find.

I use red glass beads (symbolizing blood loss). Easy, cheap and unobtrusive.

When 5th ed came out I got the pack including the random green plastic counters. This included some skull markers to track wounds. I also have some teeny tiny dice from a random collectable pirates game that work quite nicely. For my Guard HW teams the loader is removable, either on a separate base or magnetised to the main base.
Chromedog's method seems to be a rather elegant one. I am jealous

Yeah the tiny dice are the way I'm doing it but I'm looking for something better
Has anyone done LED lighting or base counter systems?

LED lights as wound counters would be awesome, however you need quite a bulky base or some serious scenery to hide all the electronics. I needed a double thickness base just to hide the batteries for a simple single LED in one of my Terminator models.

Once I get round to painting one of my multiple wound models, I want to magnetize small skulls to the base in front of my mini to represent the wounds and either add, or remove the skulls accordingly.

The magnetizing skulls idea is a great one!

I want to do metal skulls to. Where would you get metal skulls? The ones from GW aren't the right type of metal and aren't attracted to magnets.

There are 2 easy methods I think. 1 is to pick up resin, pewter, white metal or plastic skulls and fit magnets to them. The other is to google or ebay for steel skull beads, buy a really horrible cheap stainless steel bracelet and chop the skulls off that

I would buy wound counter bases, something like a clix style. We always just use dice but then sometimes you accidentally roll them

I use little acrylic "skull" wound counters.
Mine came from Gruntz 15mm but you can get a similar thing from Litko Aero Systems.

They have a good variety of different wound markers and they also do some good SF terrain pieces.

I have been trying to figure out a good way to make a model count its own wounds for my commissions. No luck so far, have a few protos but they seem too fragile/distracting.

These green skulls.
The come from the games workshop 40K counter set and work perfectly.

Or bump them or move the model and forget them. This is much worse in a squad of Nobz Clix stye would be great but I don't see anyone producing something like that. I think S6 used to but they are no longer in business. Automatically Appended Next Post:

I use old sustained fire dice, they have just enough numbers to count down from 4 wounds which is the highest any model in any of my armies has.

I use the "blood drop" counters from Gale Force 9. They are simple and are numbered so you only need one token to represent multiple wounds.

The blood drop counters seem like a good idea too!
