Very very cool article though. In 10 years, Im expecting awesome half me/half robo me

Getting evolution to work isn't that hard. You can code a computer model to do it in a few minutes.
This is pretty awesome though. Like a lot of new technology I find myself thinking "that's pretty cool, what are the practical applications?".

Coding a computer model is much easier than making an entirely new form of life and getting it to evolve though.

Sounds pretty cool, even if the article itself isn't all that good

I would have linked to the NS article

on the forum. Obviously

Well, I can't see how this will have any drawbacks. I mean, the notion of living machines that can repair themselves and replicate is a bit off imo.
I mean living metal? Come on...living metal. the metal lives the metal lives the metal lives the metal lives the metal lives the metal lives the metal lives the metal lives the metal lives the metal lives the metal lives the metal lives

the metal lives the metal lives

the metal lives

Oh god. This is both incredibly cool and scary. Mainly scary.

Even more compelling, some of the iCHELLs are being equipped with the ability to photosynthesize.

So not only are they alive, but they also have the ability to sustain themselves? That's astounding.

I can't imagine how these cells interact with normal organic cells. How are they kept separate from organic cells? Can they be affected by organic material, like white blood cells? Can they be killed with anything but high amounts of heat?

I am more interested in how they would form a "living" organism. What would it eat and excrete? How would it move?
I doubt that it would look human or like anything we've seen for that matter.

No, I'm still referring to it's single-celled existence. I have no idea how they'd combine to make multi-celled organisms. The bonds between metals are entirely different than organic bonds. It's certainly possible, but they would have to evolve significantly to provide the means of bonding.

They aren't DNA based, so I have no idea what they'd consume. A diet high in trace metals, or almost entirely trace metals (like tungsten, which was in the article).

I still think we (the US) have dibs on getting the Zombie virus up and going before Skynet gets going.
But the damn Mayans may beat us both at the end of this year......

Great, just great. Now when they global elites get so old that medical technology can no longer sustain them, they will become C'tan. We're so screwed.

As I said many times before in this thread

THE METAL LIVES!

Incidentally, I would like to see what would happen if the living metal were to bind to Ronnie James Dio.

I need a minute here. You're telling me that this thing can imitate anything it touches?
Anything it samples by physical contact.
Get real, like it could disguise itself as a pack of cigarettes?
No, only an object of equal size.
Why doesnt it become a bomb or something to get me?
It cant form complex machines, guns and explosives have chemicals, moving parts, it doesn't work that way, but it can form solid metal shapes.
Like what?
Knives and stabbing weapons.

Cool article.
