Ok I have got the points value to equip a 10 man sternguard squad with a combination of storm bolters and combi weapons. My question is what do I take/whats the best combination to take?

The unit will be alongside Pedro Kantor with a drop pod. Their role will be objective capture/kill squad. It's an army list that is for my first tournament later in the year and therefore will have multiple battles.

Trying to reply from my phone so sorry for the screwed up post. Anyway by taking this loadout you can easily combat squad and prioritize anti-heavy infantry, and anti-armor.

2 heavy flamers, 8 combimeltas, fist.

heavy flamers are just in case there are meat shields protecting any mech. Or even if there is no mech at all on the board. This leaves 8 melta shots which should be enough.
However this is a huge number of points so only if you have cheaper pods to send in first just in case any fishy business is afoot.

Either run them all as combi meltas or half melta half combi plasma.

Never equip them with weapons that remove their bolters, that's where their special ammo can be used, and their special ammo can deal with EVERYTHING but TEQ and tanks.

For a melee weapon, you can give them a power fist/sword, but if pedro is with them you could ignore it. The power fist is a good all around bet, the power sword is also a good option, but if you have the points go with a fist.

Remember NEVER remove their bolters, combi weapons or leave the standard bolters. I regularly run my sternguard in a pod with 10 combi-meltas, and they fear nothing on the table.

Yeah I saw the specialised ammo after posting. Need to get some practice in. As for cannon fodder so to speak I have a further 2 units of tactical marines to drop pod assault the sternguaed are for last min objetive grab as Pedro makes them a scoring unit.
I'm thinking 10 combi melta

Oh also I can't afford any additional weapons for the sergent greater than 5 points and that I think would be better as a combi weapon
