Hi guys.

for some reason GW took down the 2 articles I was using as a baseline for my Dark Eldar models. 1 was how to paint a raider and the other was 2 wych paint schemes and like 3 or 4 warrior schemes with step by steps for each.

I realize for some of the more advanced painters this isnt a big deal, but for the guys on the other end of painting ability these were very valuable. I tried using the wayback machine to see if they were archived but no luck.

Any help or if someone has an archive that would be awesome.

Heres the link which now takes you right to the main page.

Theres really not alot you can do. GW have removed the cached version of the page as well, so I don't think there is a way to retreive it, unless some one has saved the page on their computer. I hate it when GW does this.

I would be extremely surprised if it indicated that the new paint line was immenant . Many old articles indicated the use of inks or colors that are were nolonger available. White dwarf painting articles were also affected as well as all 40k and a large number of Fantasy articles. I sent and inquiry to Customer Service, I will let you know if I get a response.

You can use the 'cache:' search operator in google to get what you are looking for, I believe.

I noticed that some of the articles were removed regarding the SM. I know the Sicarius one was removed because GW is trying to sell it with their Masterclass book, but I can't fathom why some of the others were taken off.

Check the Ork article section. Every painting guide has been deleted.
Actually, I just looked at the "Painting Articles" section and EVERYTHING is gone.
I'm going to guess that they removed them all to motivate people to purchase the new Eavy Metal painting guide that was, pretty much, just the free web guides, reprinted in a book.
If I'm right, that's just one more fit of assholery from the donkey-caves at GW.
:(

Oh, and it looks like they requested google take down the caches.

This doesnt seem to have happened with the fantasy articles, just the images cant be view in full size and the old paints are obviously not their in the 'add all paints to basket'

I noticed the disappearance of the articles last week too -but if GW are saying the articles are out of date, and want to remove them, they forgot one...

Which seems even older than the ones they've removed!

I wonder if they updated them in the Eavy Metal Masterclass book they released at christmas.
Anyone own it?
Maybe that will mention different paints?
I still feel like it's just a ply to sell more How to Paint books.

The Eavy Metal Masterclass book is only a collection of the Masterclass articles printed in White Dwarf over the past 3-4 years.

I suspect the removal of these articles is due to the forthcoming newly redesigned paint range.

Yeah I'm guessing the re-design of the paint range on this one too. GW would rather you buy minis over paint books as there really isn't too much of a market for painting book IMO.
Without the painting articles people would feel that there was one more unneeded barrier to buying minis.
I think that's why GW goes to the trouble of doing such detailed painting tutorials.

I do doubt the accuracy of the online tutorials sometimes though better to use your instincts with the paints tbh.

With so many good painting articles and videos on the web, it's not like we don't have a nearly infinite amount of resources for that kind of stuff anyway.
I mean, just google "Painting Ork Skin" and see how many hits you get.

Pesonally I alwyas thought that the guides were a good market vehical for promoting their brand of paint. " If you want this affect, colors x,y, and z were used." Oh well.....

I can see GW doing a how-to paintguide and trying to market it. GW is not known for giving something for free that they can try and charge for. I personally would not mind a redesigned paint range though.

my best guess is, that they removed them because of the new paint range.
some rumors indicate, that the new range will hit shelves around Mid-Feb, so they may need the time to overhaul the old tutorials.

This would be a good opportunity to change the pots designs to something more vallejo like.

Why do that? Vallejo paint does not dry out like GW paint does.

I expect the new paint pot design is incapable of making a airtight seal to encourage extra purchases of paint. It will also be more expensive and contain less paint I would not be surprised to find it reduced to 5-8ml

Even this is gone now. They have removed nearly all such articles.

Just landed in the UK and checked out the local GW store... they discontinued the box of washes and only sell individual pots now?

The box was a limited edition at release 2008. How long exactly did your voyage take?

I thought it was worth noting that the Sanguinary Guard and Death Company painting article is down as well...I don't see how that painting article was out of date when both of those plastic kits are relatively new.

For feth sake, thats so frustrating! They even took down the old guardsmen painting article I was using! Dammit GW, first you dissapoint me with LoTR, then you take my painting articles! I wouldn't be suprised if GW started to do a "Subscription" web service to pay for the tutorials. The only article left is the "How to Use the Citadel Spray Gun". Once again GW, nice work.

It also often has a leak in the pot. 4 months later, GW release a Paintpot repair kit for £20.
