I've noticed (and grumbled about it on Dakka) that GW have stopped doing any articles on their website beyond posting people's miniatures from the Flickr pool.
Whilst the removal of old painting articles may well be a sign of a new paint range (hope none of you bought the mega paint set at Christmas), I don't think they'll be replacing them with new ones. Getting other people to provide their website content for them probably cuts down on a need for sizeable web team. Plus they want us to buy WD each month.

I've noticed that its not just painting articles that have gone missing. The Deff Dread and Killa Kan assembly guides seem to be missing as well.

I'm not having much luck finding any on there. All the links seem to end up at the "choose your country" screen.

I'm pissed, I have been using the Skaven and Dark Eldar painting guides....I hope they re-post them with the "new" color names....It seems that any article that mentioned a GW paint color has been removed.

Well looks like they've succeeded in removing all actual content from the website then. This company baffles me, it really does. Why would you remove all incentive to visit your website. The number of hits is presumably tied to the number of sales, no?

Why do that? Vallejo paint does not dry out like GW paint does.
I expect the new paint pot design is incapable of making a airtight seal to encourage extra purchases of paint. It will also be more expensive and contain less paint I would not be surprised to find it reduced to 5-8ml
It also often has a leak in the pot. 4 months later, GW release a Paintpot repair kit for £20.
But they will be the bestist ever style before the Paintpot repair kit (PRK) is released
I can see the slogan "Improve your painting with a PRicK"

Why does no one seem to write down their painting recipes? And surely if you used the GW tutorial for several models you should be able to remember how to do it.
Hell I can just look at any of my models and tell you exactly which paints were used in which order.
I'm sure the new paints will be lackluster. I think from now on I'll be down to using the washes, a few foundations, their 3 silvers and graveyard earth. Everything else is done better by Vallejo or Reaper. Might even throw in some P3 to experiment with.

I am no expert, but i really can't see them replacing the online guides, sadly. They were compiled over a number of years as various models were released. It surely constitutes quite a large body of work to convert the articles to a new range of paints, one that would be just too much work to do in one go for free. Sad, really

Their paints could do with a rework, most of their colours don't actually marry up. Trying to highlight a purple/grey-tinted ultramarines blue with a bright turquoise-tinted Ice blue doesn't make sense. they should have sets of three that have the same warmth/tone or base mix of colour. Goblin green and snot green is another example of a bad match - one is blue toned and the other yellow-y. Think of snakebite leather and bleach bone on the other hand and they mix perfectly.
the added advantage for GW would be that colour match products like vallejo lose their matches.

I really hope this is a site redesign maybe similar to how they have redesigned the "What's new today" blog thing.

Looks like it. Just been on the site and the painting and modelling dropdown menu on the left hand side have now been structured under different headings. Some old articles are there, but if you click on most of the new headings, there are no articles. It appears they are in the midst of redesigning the structure of the articles.
Having said that, it could be possible that GW had to redesign the articles because of a new paint range coming soon......especially when they did a mega paint set offer just recently, which could be a typical move by GW to try and get rid of their inventory of old paints quickly.

No no... Fundation. Go back and read the description. This is their big rebranding scheme, paints are now fundations instead of foundations.
I'm on to you GW... I see what your doing.
Back ot though, whats up with the blue circle? Never seen that before.

Hi, can I interest you in a subscription to our White Dwarf magazine? We have lots of useful stuff in there, including some really wonderful painting articles that would be really useful when you're painting your models.

Grey is not the first colour I'd normally associate with Slaanesh but I know the GW paint scheme for Daemonettes is done off a grey base coat.
In reference to the base and layer categories, it's sounds a bit perscriptive to me.

This would suggest they are leaving the foundation paints alone. If there is anything I wouldn't touch in this paint update it would be the foundation paints and the washes. I hope this is the case anyway.

that picture makes me think GW may be going towards a PP design for their paint range: base, shadow, highlight.
Nice idea if true, but frankly I'll hang back and see what happens.

Yep I was thinking the same thing after seeing that photo... though in the Reaper terminology of "triads" (exact same concept).
One of the GW or FW books has reference to this concept - with a chart of the GW colors organized in this manner. I distinctly remember seeing it, and again, thinking, "Huh, just like Reaper, cool, I really like that concept", but for the life of me I can NOT remember in which publication...

I logged into my GW account to see all of my saved articles. I figured that if I could still access old articles from there even though there were no more external links, I might be able to access the painting ones. No such luck. They're well and truly gone now.
