Thought I'd share these here too. The death company are now more or less done, just the foliage to add to the bases and varnishing to go. I'll probably do that in a batch with another squad...

Those are some of the best DC I have seen. I am curious how did you get that black? it looks like it isn't just black. I am painting mine at the moment and I just can't seem to get the black right... What color did you highlight them with as well? sorry for the questions I would totally love to copy your work

In short:

Vallejo Black primer (airbrushed)
VMC Black Grey rough highlights (VERY rough / messy)
GW Codex Grey edge highlights (Not too neat)
Glaze back the Codex Grey to Black Grey (use Black Grey)
Glaze back the Black Grey to Black (VMC Black)

I didn't use a glaze medium (just a wet pallette), but using one would probably help (but would have slowed me down, this is TT work, not GD. :-) )

Intermediate mixes where needed to smooth it out. It's a rough-up, smooth-down technique. This works with most colours where the darker tint has better coverage.

Mind if I ask how you did the blue glow? (technique and colors) I've been trying to decide how to finish out my jump packs, and I really like what you've done here.

Wow... just wow... these are amazing! I love the blue of the jumppacks, great contrast to the black and red of the rest of the model. Do you give lessons?

The blue is plain ol' Ultramarine blue highlighted with Ice blue and then white, with a couple of intermediate mixes of those on the way.

Wicked painting skills man. Love the blue glow you gave the jump packs, and the bases kick arse. Great job.

There's a grittiness here that you don't see on tables (especially with marines). If this is TT, don't expose me to more, I'll hide in a corner and lament my unworthiness to play neat them.

Beautiful models as ever Winterdyne, they look really battle-worn and gritty, yet so clean at the same time; really like how I'd imagine Space Marines to look. Excellent work man.

My only criticism is I actually think the bases looked better without the additional foliage; just made it seem darker/grim/deathly to me...

Enlist as a virtual Ultramarine! Click here for my Chaos Gate (PC) thread.

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."
