I've recently had a friend bring up The Army Painter and the paints you can get from them to quickly finish models.

How do the rest of y'all feel about them and do y'all know how well they work?

Haven't used them personally yet.
A friend of mine uses Quickshade with excellent results. It takes a while to dry, has to be applied with a separate brush (non-water-based) and needs a matte varnish at the end that is compatible (e.g. Vallejo Matte varnish Spray, no solvents).
Sprays seem to work a bit differently than Citadel sprays: You need to get closer with shorter bursts, otherwise the paint dries in the air and you get weird results, spoiling you miniature.

Personally I will try the primers once but prefer Citadel washes over Quickshade.

I gave them a try, and fell in love. If you go looking for the pics I've put up, it's what I'm using for everything...at least the quickshade. It does take a long time to dry, but the advantage is you can work with it for a while...fixing if it pooled up somewhere, drawing it over a spot you missed, etc.

Their anti-shine matte finish is the best I've seen, but is pricey.

Primers, I tried army painter, gw, krylon, and walmart. After a bit of playing, I'm going with the cheaper Army painter does come in some nice shades though, and I would use them again if I really wanted that specific color. It does go on nicer than average too.

My experiences anyways

It's good, quality stuff. I have not been disappointed in the products I have used (primer, etc.).

Their primer is great.
They hold a lot of paint, they are a little thick compared to the gw stuff but it covers nicely and if done right wont clog details.

The quick shade isnt bad but if you want more than rank and file models I wouldnt suggest it.

Over all I am a fan and have used the sprays and dip.

I love their primers, haven't used the quickshade yet, I want to find someone in my area and try it on a model first before I drop the cash on it

I can second and even third the coloured primers, they're excellent and one of the best things i've ever found to speed me along with my hobby! I own the dragon red, angel green and plate metal ones and they're all good, I've not had a problem with any can and they seem to last for ages too! highly recommended if you want to quickly lay down your base colour without spending days with a brush!

The quickshade seems pretty expensive thought - How large of a container is it? (Images make it look like a paint can, but I can't imagine it's anywhere near that size)
Also, does anyone have any experience with dipping models in the quickshade instead of painting it on?

I use this method for my space wolves,

Wolf Grey on the armour then dip them in quick shade and cover with a matt varnish. I then go on to paint the rest as normal.

I got some of their alien purple spray paint to get some quick colour my DE. I normally use GW's liche purple but due to an impending game needed a quick way of painting a load of models.

Found the spray to apply incredibly evenly and easily, really liked using it. I will go back to the liche purple, though that's only because I prefer that shade.

If you want to see the difference in colour for comparison, follow the link to my plog in my signature. It's a good colour though a little to pastely for my liking, though that's not a criticism of the Army Painter range.

I really like their Brushes, reasonable priced, hardwaring and actually a cleverly designed range.

I also use their Coloured Primers and use them on all my projects, even if it's not a perfect colour match. It's the extra depth of colours, and the time it saves over basecoating that is impressive.

On the subject of dipping, i have bought all their quickshade tones and used them alot. Now, I paint my models and wash them and varnish them with any hardware varnish, or model varnish. Quickshade does not give a precise enough or controllable finish, it's great if you don't give a damn how your models look. I however am striving for better and better looking miniatures as I develop. Therefore dipping was a nice stepping stone into the uses and techniques in varnishing. (Like Pin washing, or getting realistic looking decals etc).

I still use my Quickshade, I just dilute it with white spirit (mineral spirits) and paint it on in a more controlled manner. Dipping is a bit too random for me.

You can use any Poly-Varnish. Just wash your miniatures for shading let it dry and then paint it on.

Dipping leads to pooling in cracks and crevices, if you try to remove it, it leaves brush strokes. Painting on is more controllable and gives better results.

I had a not so good experience with their brush range. I got the Insane Detail brush and it lost it's point after two or three uses. On the other hand I have noname sable brushes I treated the same way, which have kept their point for over a year now.

Sable will always be better, I like the Army Painter brushes because of what I wrote above. I'm not saying they are better than Sable or Kolinski's, but for the price I think they are quite good.

not many people bring up the actual Army Painter paints, but I'd have to say.... eh. They seem way too limited. They go on pretty well, and are a nice midtone, but if you want to do anything besides paint-dip-touchup, you're gonna need to mix in another range.

I use there primer, paint brushes and the clear coat matt finish.

I love there products. The brushes last a good long while (more than 6 months). The Matt Clear Coat has yet to turn a model cloudy or yellow. and the primer works and i get about twice the models covered compared to the GW stuff for 2/3rd of the price.

that is very true, however for someone like me who is only looking for table top quality and not golden deamon, then they are a god send!

Not anymore they're releasing their own paints so you don't need to worry about trying to find a match colour for the spray meaning they become a hell of a lot better in my book.
