Folks,
Since we are 40k players we aren't completely poor, but few of us are tycoons either. Thus, we search for low cost alternatives.

Some of us choose pricey armies (orks, tyranids, guard etc)... Cha-ching. Some units are outrageously expensive to field. prohibitively so in the case of MEGANOBZ. To fill a battle wagon with official GW meganobz models would cost $200 retail not including the battle wagon itself.

What tourney-legal, WYSISYG, cheap alternatives have y'all seen for mega nobz? Pics would be helpful. Or are meganobz so worthless that nobody fields them in tourneys or the meta?

Thanks.
Dr G

I love Meganobz, but I'm a tycoon. I can fill 4 battlewagons...but I've been avidly collecting them for 7 years. That said, I've taken to converting some to break things up a bit.

The alternative is using Assault on Black Reach terminators. Cut off the termi legs and use Da Boyz legs, make sure to armor them up. Armor plates in the front, boyz head. Here are some pics of mine:

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Are those claws made of sprue?

You could always try kitbashing and / or greenstuff.

Nope, just stuff from the Nobz box set. I battle damages everything with an exacto.

Id suggest using Terminators as well. The AoBR ones are particularly cheap. The amount you convert them is up to you, but a simple Ork head and Orky looking weapons would satisfy.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too

Yeah, a simple head/weapon swap on termies is simple, cheap, and unlikely to get any complaints at a tourney, but they won't really look that great - termies don't have that hunched over 'gorilla' pose typical of orks. The legs are the biggest problem to try to fix.

I suggest doing something like Dez above - use termy torsoes but adding bits and plasticard armour over ork legs. Depends on what's in your bits box re body bits though - arguably, a cheaper method (if you already have plenty of orky bits) is just to take normal nobs and add buckets of plasticard armour.
