I used Army Painter Ultramarine Blue primer and Quickshade - for my first ever attempt I think they came out well! Of course any feedback is appreciated! If only they didn't come out so grainy!

Very nice, I like the rough look.

Paint the bases and add something more to them, and just add a bit more shading on the sarges face and it's all good.

The grain is an unfortunate side effect of a number of factors. It happens a lot with Army Painter spray if you don't properly follow the instructions, it's particularly humid outside, or you just got a bad can.

The 'Cut

Never, ever, ever strip those models. Keep them the way they are forever. It's great to be able to go back to the first models you did after you've been painting for years to marvel at how much you've grown as a painter.

Yeah, I used to have the same trouble with the pebbling effect from primers. I switched to Rustoleum auto primer, which I personally think works best. Other than that, your technique is funtional. I think that on the table, at arms length, these figs would look pretty sweet.
