There are certain chapters who see being interned in the dreadnought as an honor. Iron Hands and their successor chapters being one of them. I would imagine that the Chapter would have to be in good with the Adeptus Mechanicus to gain access to a lot of dreadnoughts. Or, they could possibly be relic hunters. But 25 isn't that ridiculous of a number.

Rules wise Blood Angels can run up to 12 Dreads.
....or more if you run multiple Death Company units but that would just be silly

@Boggy79, Thanks, I'm not sure if i want to play the game just yet, I'm still saving up to buy AoBR set and various paints and tools, I would to mainly model and so forth becuase the game looks so hard to grasp and there's so many rules. Thanks again.

For Clarity:
Blood angels can have a max of 11 Dreads in any one force org chart, not 12 or more.

The game seems really daunting at first, but if you can get a learning game or two in you can pick the basics of the game up very quickly. In a standard Space Marine army, you can run a Master of the Forge who grants lets you field 6 dreadnoughts as opposed to 3.

True. I just took it as given that running a game with that many points you'd need multiple FOC's.
I might total up the points needed just out of curiosity now....

Ancient Venerable Dreadnought

The 3rd Edition SM Codex lists the Ultramarines as having 31 Dreadnoughts across nine companies. And that takes into account the 5th Company which was supposed to have suffered heavy casualties in a recent campaign at that time. The Ultramarines are probably better equipped with rare gear than most Chapters, but still. So yeah, 25 in an entire Chapter seems a reasonable number.

Ebay or Amazon are safe bets. Look around and you should be able to find one for under $100 dollars or so. Also, if you can find a friend who wants to chip in for the Ork half you'll already have yourself an opponent.

Yep. Remember though, when you have more dreadnoughts it's generally because your chapter has a long and storied history. Dreadnoughts are rare and are living relics, an upstart year 38,000 chapter would not have dozens of them.
Also, dreadnoughts are extremely rarely all roused at once, but rather a small fraction are awake at any time. The space wolves I believe have around 100 dreadnoughts, all of whom were once roused in the defense of their fortress-monastery at one point.

@ph34r, Yeppers, My chapters 2nd company is only made up of those dreadnoughts which will only be awoken every 100 years for 200 years and every major battle/crusade. I know i'm most probably going against proper fluff but as i probably won't be playing, it's more about what i like and what i think is cool. Please feel free to correct on fluff and so forth. Also if you would like to check out my chapter and it's limited fluff, look here : http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/426902.page
