I still play them often, thank goodness they both got updated to 360 software as my old xbox died last year. (Sadly Timesplitters seemed to somehow get missed in the 360 update scramble.)
Would love to see a new one, but lucasarts at this time has no interest in bringing it back.

Which is just stupid IMO. They could make an ass ton of money on that franchise. I know I would run out and buy a new, polished, awesome version with online support to kick some peoples asses! And yes, I still play Battlefront from time to time still, its a fantastic game, and has aged really well

Aye same.
I know some times reviewers and mags trash on franchises for bringing out new ones every year, but sometimes the games are just that damned good, you'd want them anyways.
For Star Wars Battlefront, I look at all the battle sites they have missed, characters who have since appeared in the Clone Wars series, or they missed the first two times around anyway, and just think where is this game?

Not to mention updated graphics and the support you can get from the modern consoles. Could you imagine playing Battlefront, but with the prettyness of say, SpaceMarine?

I still play the second one fairly often. I played the first so much it doesn't read any more
I wish they would re-release them in HD on PS3 like the MGS series. I'm pretty sure I'd put down Deus Ex and BF3 for some time if LucasArts/Pandemic actually worked together and made it.
Imagine a Battlefront 3....oh, I still dream about that game...

Fixed that for ya. Those are just such timeless classics I cant figure out why they havnt made a new version. The version I had years ago on my PS2, I log so many friggin hours on it, I couldnt even come close to guessing how many days I actually would have logged in total.

I loved these games and would really want to get them on 360 (No live ;'( )
But my friend still has a working PS2 and both games.
The PSP version was also pretty good with nice character customization

These would be great multi-player games.
But, I just know that if Battlefront 3 came out now, Stormtroopers would all look like bulked out steroid-users and their armor would be shades of brown.

Loved them to bits, still wish I could play them from time to time. Still remember the best thing on the first game.
You start on an ice world( cant remember which one, but the world has to different maps, and its a droids clones map.) It has ice caves. You spawn in the ice caves, and because you spawn slightly earlier you can run out before the AI's spawn and hope in one of their own tanks.
Finished many a game with 60-70 something kills and no deaths doing that.

Yeah that was the harbour level. One of the great shames I have about that is Battlefront 2 allowed you to download the missing levels from the first game, and a couple more Jedi including my faves Kit Fisto and Asajj Ventress.. but I didn't realise the 360 can actually store the info until about four months after they had shut down the old Xbox LIVE. A big do'h moment for me there.

Still play SW:BF2 (PS2 version).
I've finished the various missions/timelines several times, but I go back again to try it with various other troop types.
@JohnnoM: The ice world is probably Hoth. There is another ice world in the game, but it's not usually caverns but man-made structures.

I played too much Battlefront, both 1 and 2. The Jedi controls didn't seem very refined in 2 to me, but the fact that they had them at all was a huge nerdgasm back then. No more invincible Darth Vader deflecting missles with his lightsaber and falling off ledges just to reappear and slash your face off =P

There where two levels based there, the harbour level with the ice tunnel, which had a harbour on one side which either a AT-TE or an AT AT would assault depending on era, and then the Citadel. Which is an old castle with walkways and such.

George Lucas make a smart decision? Pah! That'll be the day.
There are still rumors of the BF3 development but there have been rumors for years and it wouldn't be the first well selling Star Wars game to disappear into the abyss (Jedi Knight, Rogue Squadron, KoTOR).
George Lucas' company has actually made hundreds of bad decisions but the popularity of the IP means he can afford it, not to mention all the net income from the various books, comics, films, and television series.

Seems they are too busy bringing out new versions of "The Force Unleashed", now with an even more mary-sue'ish clone to rape you canon, because lensflares and exaggerated heroisms seem to be THE thing in this decade. I'm still waiting for a sequel to TIE Fighter, too.
But damn, I loved Battlefront 1 and 2. I remember I was a bit miffed when the sequel came out so soon after the first game (it wasn't even a year, was it?), but it had so many additional features I just had to get it either way. The space battles were just too awesome! Flying around in your TIE Interceptor, escorting a Lambda shuttle crewed by player Stormtroopers and defending it against player X-Wings, all the while evading player-controlled capital ship turrets until the shuttle lands in the enemy hangar and the troops fan out to disable its systems, shooting down more player-controlled rebels as they advance through the corridors... badass.
The Battle for Hoth was also an instant classic. Shooting down Snowspeeders with your AT- AT was hard but sooo rewarding.
My wishlist for BF III:
- more game modes (including a "realism" setting where people have fewer hitpoints and blaster shots fly faster)
- limited character customization (minor uniform accessories, skin colour and facial features, gender for classes where it is appropriate)
- more sensible starship categorization ( BF II included a few weird choices for the Clone Wars space maps, although this was back when there weren't as many options as there are today)
- a couple new heroes (mostly from the Clone Wars series I reckon, though the Expanded Universe has sufficient candidates for Rebellion Era maps)
- more maps that include NPCs helping one or both sides

Did anybody else love blasting Mace Windu off that gas planet's platforms with the super battle droid's rockets in BF1? Hilarious every time.

It took me some time getting used to him, but after a while I grew to love the jetpack + "shotgun" combo. Much to the detriment of a certain buddy who got killed again and again regardless of what class he chose to counter the Dark Trooper.
I also loved the Clone Aerial Trooper, the Imperial Officer and, of course, the Imperial Pilot and the regular Stormtrooper / Clone Trooper.
As for the Heroes, I very much enjoyed Boba Fett and Aayla Secura, though Vader was always an instant classic as well ofc.

Dark Trooper rules. Other than him I just loved the general trooper.
For those who don't know there is a wonderful mod for the PC version of Battlefront II called Conversion Pack. It adds numerous new maps, skins in some of the Imperial and Republic Legions and adds in numerous (and I mean numerous new heroes). Before the mod died they'd also started worked on an Old Republic game mode. Its unfinished but you can play the hero only assault mode with characters like Revan, Darth Malek, and Darth Traya. It also added new elite units. I don't remember them all but for the Republic you got to play as the Clone Commandos from Republic Commando.

Oh boy oh boy... battlefront....
I played Battlefront 2 so much with my brother the disk actually snapped in two, inside the PS2 mid-game. I now play BF1 on the Playstation and the Computer.
The console had better handling and all, but you couldn't beat the Computer one in size. the maps were all the same, but you had 24 dudes a side, and when you maxed out reinforcements and health for everybody, setting the difficulty to hardest, you had a real war! I still remember when i and a few AI in a skiff on Dune Sea encountered a squadron - yes, a Squadron - of AATs, flanked by 5 Destroyer droids out of a maximum six! We got screwed up so bad, but it was one of the best games I've ever played. That and one of the many, many glorious tank battles I've had on Naboo Plains.
It really got on my nerves that they'd removed loads of the really cool old maps from BF1 when they made BF2. wasn't a fan of Theed, and when they kept it over Plains I think I died a little inside.
I heard rumours of BF3 coming out this later this year actually. I'm praying that they bring back Rhen Var, Dune sea, Plains, Bespin, and all the rest that they left behind. I also want them to add customisation, and add a dedicated Clan system. Battlefront and halo defined Clan warfare, it would be only fair to set up a system for creating Clans, maybe alliances, recruitment, chat rooms etc.
i think they could make it a dual project thing. Games on console and PC, Clanning on Interwebs.
