Hi thought id start my first P&M blog on my attempt to build a napoleonic themed IG army. Im not the worlds best painter of photographer, but i do enjoy the making and painting of these things!

So heres the first few pics, most of my things are still works in progress!

I think that what you're doing with this army looks promising, I'll definitely follow this. What are your plans for the future of this army? Any exciting plans, or are you making it up as you go along?

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

A bit of both really. Im rather restricted cash wise at the moment so I decided on a largely infantry army, mostly Victrix mini's although a few regular GW one donated or acquired on E-bay. There is a bit of a scale difference but when mixed in with so many of the victrix, its not that noticeable overall and I quite like the rather thin look, especially against marines it makes the marines look that bit more superhuman. Although that being said im not a huge tank army fan anyway!

Im going to write some fluff, that hopefully will justify some mix and matching, planet cut of by regular warp storms and such I think.

i know that money issue pretty well too... also if you are interested... i did some convincing cardboard scratchbuilt tanks for my own IG...if you like they are shown in my gallery...

your painting is quite good... white is a hard color to get right... so i am looking forward to more good looking men of your army!

cheers, vik

Yeah im going red coat as well, I had thought about french, but I always liked the old british firing line!

I am liking the reptile rough riders, they were very cool.

Here's a couple of Las cannon teams

may i ask you where did youo get those cartwheels from? i need some of these for my next project...

the only thing i would suggest is looking in to get some washes on the models... other than that i think your minis look great and there is nothing to add... also...that lascanon now looks very good sizewise... much better that way than a mere cadian HW team would...

Im liking the tanks, I was busy on sunday trying that myself! Bit trial and error at the mo though!

Yeah i probably could do washes a bit more I think some of the others are better, tho its getting it so the white stays nice and bright, tricky! Plus getting a good pic is a pain!

The las cannon teams are using the victrix artillery bits, just taking off the cannons themselves, the auto cannon are bits off a tank model and wood, with a few bits from the victrix artillery set on. Its very good value, you get enough to do 3 cannon,3 limbers and about 18 crew I think.

Ok so this week I got my self a 2nd box of Victrix peninsular British so as soon as I wrap up the oddments im currently working on I should be able to creat a further 3 or possibly 4 squads with those not earmarked for use as Heavy weapons crew and such!

I also recieved 3 scout sentinel's via Ebay, no crew and one broken, but hopefully should be easy enough to fix up, will be repainting and hopefully a few pics for here soon!

So I have given the Sentinel's a go, One down 2 to go!

This is what they looked like before:

And after:

Some heavy bolter team pics

And one of the infantry squads, im still thinking about further sci-fi'ng them, and for the next box may try a different rifle type, but I am quite partial to the hasslefree pulse rifles!

That looks like DKOK, a Valhallan officer and then.. the French?!

I think its an excellent idea and I can't wait to see more of your work!

Yeah im not quite sure who the officer is, he was in a bag of odds I got off ebay, I figure he would make a decent Chenkov perhaps!

I must admit the individual troops dont look that sci fi on their own,but en mass they look decent!

the two new guys wield what guns?

and i asked some time earlier...where did you got all those cartwheels? i need to get me some of these...

UK

Oops sorry, I had ammended an existing reply! The cart wheels are from the Victrix British foot artillery pack, my Las cannons are simply replacing real cannons on those. The pack is great,it has 15 crew, 3 cannon and 3 limbers, although in my case my partner had the limbers away!

The guns on these infantry are spare las guns from a heavy weapons pack, the pistol is a milliput made laspistol. Im trying the own made to see what they look like, most of the others already done have the Hassle free weapons.

ah! thank you... now i need to see if there is a fella that ouwl sell me the cartwheel bits... and the conversion looks rather good i might add!^^

Aye A few more wheels without buying another pack of cannon would be handy, making wheels from plasticard just takes to long! Plus im running out of tank spares to use on the bolter/autocannons!

Thanks old bean! I used to do 15mm Napoleonics for shacko rules so the theme was a trip down memory lane!

Redcoats are not neccessary limited to Praetorians, and not even Vostroyans. look at my works for paintjobs
1. Do you make 60mm Heavy Weapons base all by yourself? the base looks very thin compared to what i'm doing.
2. Didn't Brits artillery crew wears blue coat instead of red by then?

3. What is a technology behind artillery spike? or is it actually Berdan fuze ignition systems with fully tight ropes?
4. About Line Infantry. it seems that you've also bought pulse rifle bitz too. but some squads use a converted cadian lasgun. maan what's your impressum of M41 pulserifle?
5. will you use Tanks too?
4. About your (Coehorn) mortar. do those dudes need to load propelling powder separately?

Lovely stuff these look great well painted and well executed. Are you replacing guns with Lasguns I'd recommend it to get them in the right era? How easy is the conversion? Also have you considered using the Scots as Veterans.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. Indeed Royal artillery wore blue coats, being a seperate entity to the army but I thought id just keep the red coat theme for the most part, really just for the appearence.

Yeah most of my heavy wep bases are plasticard, although a few are on GW bases, nmostly they are made by me.

Yup I like the pulse rifles, they are not that different in size to the Las guns, mostly its the width to them. Some are done with las guns, just to see what they are like, but I figure painted the same way there isnt much difference and to be honest I will use what I can in an effort to save cash! I figure used en mass the difference wont be that noticable.

The guys on the mortar I just like, not really needed but I put em on anyway, I may if I get a few spare mortar rounds put some fins on them.

Im aiming for mostly Infantry, I may get a few chimeras and Hopefully some barrage support but Im mostly going for the thin red line!

The artillery spike? You mean the ignition fuse? Its the safest way to avoid having open flame near gunpowder, as you say is basically a pole with gunpowder soaked rope/wick round around, that smoulders slowly, but enough to ignite the loose powder released by pricking the propellant charge when applied to the firing pan.

@Llamahead I think il see how they look, my fluff is basically a world with a similar social structure to 18th century Britain, but cut off often by warpstorms so they accrue a mix of technologies both local and imperial, hopefully explaining the assortment of equipment!

I had definately considered scotts, I ,ay well do some at some point, although I had considered doing some green jackets, though they probably should go as ratling/snipers. I just like the chosen men rough feel of the sharpe type charectors!

Hey there.

I think, as the pioneer of this old victrix - 40k stuff (I think I am anyway), your stuff is pretty good. Really impressed by the paint job, on what are really bloomin difficult thinks to paint. May I suggest a little washing.

Now. The 51st is somewhere in Yorkshire right? (I'm 36th...check my plog this weekend for updates!!!)...is that on purpose or by chance?

If on purpose you have to do the Sharpe in Yorkshire characters.......from Sharpe's Justice!

If you want to sci-fi up your troops check out my comms guys for instance...pretty easy conversions but I think they work!

Anyway:

Im liking your vox guys, I may have to do something similar, so far ive just given them a drum and a vox caster, but I like the amplifier!

Yup I belive it was a Yorkshire regiment, although personally I just liked the name!

Yeah I keep getting washes, il have to look it up properly, I usually just give athem a wash of black then re highlight the cross belts and such.

I really want a sharpe thing of some sort, veterans or a marbo type perhaps!

About backstory
1. materials that make stovepipe Shako (sometimes the design looks alot like Canadian troops in the War of 1812. against the U.S. of A.) is it hard leather just like original ones? or is it 'plastic and polymer' tech?
2. is the 'M41 Pulserifle' actually a projectile or laser weapon?

The artillery spike? You mean the ignition fuse? Its the safest way to avoid having open flame near gunpowder, as you say is basically a pole with gunpowder soaked rope/wick round around, that smoulders slowly, but enough to ignite the loose powder released by pricking the propellant charge when applied to the firing pan.

taht's right! i'm referring to ignition fuse. for coehorn mortar (and maybe... Basilisk if you plan to use one =^.^= ) it makes sense. but for 'Las cannon' (you declared that it is Lascannon .. not any 18th century muzzleloader "counts as" lascannon) and YOUR lascannon with a bundle of power conduit plugged with a powercell (the only 'chemistry' component of this weapon)

I'm referring to this picture. the Lascannon is 'energy' weapon powered by electricity and a pure physics. while you want to keep the Napoleonics theme by having the ignition fuses to some of guncrews (singleshot ones not repeating weapons like AC and HB). and the default LC (IG Heavyweapon boxsets, both Cadians and Catachans) has its fire control system that resembles HMG. which. is 'not consistence with the theme you're currently using). what is the technology behind the stick you use on lascannon? if it doesn't work by pricking a slowburning wick on the fuze tip onto the 'touchhole' as a conventional LC doesn't have one? (and not supposed to work that way mew!)

mew!

Ahh gotcha, to be honest I hadnt given it all that much thought, I just liked the look of the guy firing it that way, went with the 'cannoney' theme! although I wonder if a weapon of that power fired on a wheeled conveyance would have some recoil, so either the barrel slides back like on a shell firing weapon or the carriage jolts some, requiring the firer to stand away some what. The fuse pole could be something akin to a electric stove lighter, that provided on contact an electric jolt to make it fire.

Hmm as to the shacko's id say they are likely to be made of something a little harder than leather, perhaps a kev;ar type material, enough for a little protection but mostly to make theboys look smart!

The pulse rifle of film was a projectile weapon, mine are really more of as counts as, possibly a local varient? However I havent fully decided yet, they may yet be simple autoguns.
