A friend of mine plays Space Marines. Is it possible for space marines on bikes, with chainswords, to fire their bike bolters, and still gain the bonus from using chainswords in close combat if they assault?

The weapons you fire in the shooting phase has no bearing on the weapons you use to attack in cc.It also depends on what the bikers are equipped with. If they have a pistol and the chainsword, they would get the bonus attack.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Yes, since the bike rules on pg 53 make no mention of disallowing the bonus attack from an extra CC weapon
oops: misread the questions.
Yes, because of what Happyjew said

page 53 of the main rulebook says "bikers have the relentless special rule, allowing them fire all weapons, move, and assault.
If they turbo boost, they can't shoot or assault obviously.

What bonus is he suggesting that he's supposed to be receiving?

the only bikers, as far as I know, who can use chainswords AND bolt pistols are space wolves... codex marines and blood angels both cannot have chainswords.

So you're saying that a marine with a bolt pistol, on a bike can fire the bikes twin-linked bolters and the bolt pistols?
If that's true, I need to pull the chainswords off my scout bikes and pick up a few free pistol shots.

No, relentless just lets them fire as though they were stationary, not more than 1 weapon.

While that's true in general, it's not universally true (Ork Burnas). Just being a pedantic jerk.

Q: Can bikes Turbo Boost during their Scout move? (p76) A: Yes they now can, but remember that they have to remain more than 12” away from the enemy as they move. From the 40k FaQ http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2170001a_40k_Rulebook_FAQ_Version_1_5_January_2012.pdf

Was that a specific rule, or a reminder from the 4th edition rules, that was just noted in the codex and is doubly cancelled by 5th edition and the FAQ?

It is a specific rule in the codex. While it reminds you of 4th ed, so does BT TP...
