Alright, it is with a heavy heart and the heart breaking news that Templars wont be getting upgraded till 2013 at the earliest, that I have decided that I am jumping ship. This is mainly due to the fact that I am just failing with them so badly and disgracing them with my defeats, it is almost disheartening to me, and i do not want to stop this hobby,

So it brings me to ask what army should I jump to?

I used to be a loyalist like you, but then I BLOOD! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

Are you having active problems playing them in their current codex? What issues are you facing? How averse would you be to running them as a Space Wolf, Blood Angel, or Codex Marine army?

If you were going to take the plunge into a new army, I'd go for something that isn't power armor, and is a different type of army altogether. I'd go with a more shooty army like Guard, or an even more mobile army like Dark Eldar. Orks and many Nid builds would probably be a little close to the "lots of dudes chopping stuff" Templar army I assume you have.

1. Im not sure what my problem is to be honest, I mean at times i feel a bit overwhelmed by all of there rules, and effects that i have been probably playing them wrong,
2. The issues have been that i go over there codex at least 3x a day, and still cant figure out a list that i feel comfortable fielding in a battle for far to many reasons to list,
3. Not to adverse at all, but im thinking of taking the total plunge into non power armour, save maybe for CSM
4. Guard does sound good, but im looking for Shooty guys who can not necessarily remain still, but rather but up nice shots, and then wreck everything in close combat.

If this helps at all, -_-

Sounds like DE are what you're looking for if you want movement with good shooting and to wreck things in CC but stay away from power armor.

Otherwise, just repaint your marines to your own created chapter, use a different SM codex and save a some money?

I'd borrow some other codices from fellow players and give C:SM, C:SM, SW, C:SM, CM, BA all a try (in that order).

See if there is a 'dex that fits you better without a new investment.

Depending on what you're running it might actually fit one of the other codices much more. Cheaper also to borrow like others have said and try them out.

Wait... we're NOT getting updated this year? Where did you find this out?

I'd ask if you'd consider Eldar, but they can be pretty punishing.

Still, a rather versatile set of units that can work in perfect coherency... they've got a tool to do everything and they are highly mobile. They're also rather pretty.

Sound appealing?

It's just part of this never ending ebb and flow of rumors, some of which say not til 2013, some say this year. Harry doesn't even know when they're coming out, and he's the one rumormonger who is (and has been) right most of the time.

Okay I guess, but the OP seems pretty convinced, and it's caused quite a stir on the BT rumour thread on B&C. I guess I'm worried because I've been waiting a long time for our update, and now we're not only the oldest codex, we're also a marine dex, and as much as I hate to admit it, that should put us pretty high up GW's list on what needs doing, based on their love of us.

It took me 3 tries to find the army that worked best for me; I started with marines to save money for my guard army that I really wanted to build, but after a while I poked around the ork codex and haven't looked back since.

Read up about all the armies you are considering, borrow the books, proxy a couple games if you can, or borrow an entire army for a night. See what suits you best, and go with that. The army you choose might surprise you, I know mine did.

I don't think I've found an army I enjoy yet, but hey, I don't play very often; to me it's *all* about aesthetics and fluff. I don't give two hoots for gameplay.

Okay, after a decent sleep ill get some interaction out there,

1. For the rumor of Templars not being updated, i got my info from the primary rumor threads

*Links here,
BT thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/412912.page
General release thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/411404.page

2. As for what i am trying to run with templars,

I am trying to run a power weapon gun line (Heavy Weapon + Melta) and the rest of my crusader squads made for CC

3. Eldar, maybe i have to look into if my local shop even has them

4. I do enjoy the templars a lot actually, i just lost confidence after being tabled time after time no matter what i brought to the metaphorical party.

Like others have stated. I would invest time to testing out other Space Marine codices. For instance. I sometimes field my SW as Space Marines so I can use some of the cool IA characters. Similarly, my long time mate uses the SM codex for his Dark Angels.

But if you really want to get into another army, I would look into something entirely different.

If you don't mind adding to the bandwagon, Necrons are pretty solid as it is and they are geared up for 6th ed (so you don't have to worry about old rules). I would shy away from anything post-DE because they will probably be either facing the same treatment as BTs have in 5th edition, or just won't perform well in 6th edition.

Edit: I will come out and say this though. I had problems with my Imperial Guard, like you do with your Templars. I have been playing them for 6 years now and I still lose quite a bit with them. However, they are my favorite army and I just have fun with them. I know it is disheartening to lose, but when you win it can be a lot of fun. Experiment constantly with what you have. Proxy some stuff to test out things you may need to buy for your Templars to get them up to speed. In our club there is a Templar player who regularly tables his opponents, so I know they can work in 5th edition quite well.

Im tempted to use just the vanilla codex and see how that works out, but im not to sure, The thing with Necrons is one of my buddies just started them up, or i would consider them, im also fairly new, so what exactly is post-de army wise, save for Crons, GK, and well DE of course,

I would proxy things,,,,,,if there was anything i could proxy, most of the units that i want to build around, as listed here,
-40 Marines (20 More yet to be built)
-26 Terminators
-A tech Marine
-Both Helbrecht, and Grimualdus
-An Attack bike Squad
-7 Scouts
-2 Commanders
-Predator Annihaltor
-3 Dreadnoughts
-2 LRCs
-A Regular Land Raider
-Land Speeder Typhoon
-Vindicator
-An unbuilt drop pod.

So What else can i Proxy, (Hence my disappointment that there is as of now no new codex coming)

Rumours are always going to have a chance to be wrong. At the moment, GW is doing quite well in ensuring we have no fething clue what is going on. For example, the reliable rumour guys didn't even know one month out that the February issue of WD was going to be 90% LOTR. Black Templars could end up ebing the very next release contrary to what rumour sources say - I mean, they've also been saying the entre model range has been finished for the last 18 months.

Don't base decisions off rumours. Base it off your enjoyment of the army. If you want to stick with Black Templars but they're not working, ask around in tactics threads for advice. If you're having trouble with the amount of special rules and such in a BT army, armies like Dark Eldar, Tyranids or even Guard are going to really give you the willies.

Why?

If we're willing to pay the money and don't utterly despise Matt Ward (entirely), there's really no reason to do so.

I love the setting, I took a break from GW for a few months to concentrate on some WWII stuff, but now I'm back and enjoying myself just as much as I ever have... Not that this makes your point invalid, I'm just questioning its sense.

I do suppose, however as you said you never know.

Ive also posted about 3 threads in the tactics section took up some ideas and saw them fall flat. Its not the rules themselves but it is the way they are employed, that drive me nuts because im always forgetting things.
