I am 30 and have been playing 40k since i was 12. I have miniatures from all editions of the game and just picked up a new Finecast Lord Commissar to be a regular commissar for my second platoon blog.

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1160042a

(BEFORE OPENING) Initially I was excited. The detail in the model looked great. The texture looked slightly rough, just rough enough to give that latex paint some tooth to grip to.

(AFTER OPENING) Wow The mini is soft and rubbery and feels brittle. Never before have I felt that I should worry about snapping a powersword in half. There is still the standard 1mm thick mold line I have to file off, I guess I will have to be extra careful prepping and storing this mini.

If anyone has experienced lots of playtime on this new minis can you tell me how they hold up?
I usually store mine sandwhiched flat between two sheets of eggcrate foam, will this damage it ?

There are plenty of other threads on this forum, and they all agree on one thing: "Finesnap",or "Finecrap" is one of GWs bigger mistakes. Some people do prefer it to Metal (paintingwise), but the fact that it often breaks is common knowlede. I guess youll just have to be very careful with it......

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

IF it's done right, it's superior to metal IMO. However, the early teething problems still remain in some casts, and thus is less preferable to metal in some aspects such as quality and durability.

It's all a bit hit and miss: some models are spectacular, some really aren't.

I have the commisar lord model bought on the day of release and it's pretty much perfect. He's been gamed with several times with no problems and survives his time in a carry case fine too.
I have no concerns over his sword being brittle either- I actually demonstrated the bouncability of Finecast by flicking him off of a table with no breakage.

On the other hand I bought a Necron Lord who's staff snapped just getting it out of the frame...

I had seen some posts saying bad things but I had hoped they were just trolls.

I will take toxic metal minis any day of the week.

They are pretty flexible, but not as bendy as metal was.

All in all, FC isn't doing to bad right now.

I have gotten two Finecast models so far. Lord Draigo was perfect.

Librarian in Terminator Armour was bad and GW sent me a good replacement. (that being said the Librarian is a bad model to paint. some of the lines are just way to deep for the parts that they are i.e. the keys and the chains.

All in all I am happy with the models so far

Oh and BTW dont file down the model indoors the resin can give off toxic fumes from filing.

Finecrap it shall be renamed.
There are tons of these threads.

I laugh at the fact that Draigo was perfect XD

I did see one model in my favourite store that was a bad cast, but to be fair they have some pretty old stock.

When I went to GW all the casts where good and the vampire I bought was flawless, the sword hilt did almost break when I was taking it off the frame, but that's just because I have no clippers.

My local store has a lot of new models and they are look great too.

I just think you got an unlucky cast.

OK.... perhaps perfect was a bit strong, but he is Draigo....(kinda the Chuck Norris of the 41st millennium)

Hell, at least yours wasn't miscast, be thankful for that. Brittleness is the least of Finecast's problems (but still a major flaw and not good at all for gaming pieces).

You know, from what I've seen you're probably one of the few who can talk about Finecast without any real bias. You can talk about the pros while also acknowledging the cons and don't do this bs that a lot of others do. I.E., "I bought a perfect model so Finecast is perfect. Internet hyperbole." I admire that.

So I guess not having a GW store in my entire state from which to buy good Finecast models from is also "unlucky". lol

Even if the St. Louis bunker was open that's quite a trip just for models. : \

Yea, I guess I'm spoiled here in Washington. Any time there's a problem with a finecast purchase, I can deal with it right there. I cringe at the thought of purchasing via Direct Order. :/

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1
