Ok so im coming back to the game after quite a while, with my tau, and the other week I was playing a game where the guy I was playing assumed that drones counted towards the 25% models lost for morale checks, I cant remember how I used to play this but I cant actually find anywhere that supports this, I thought Id read this in an FAQ, but its not there anywhere, and as drones are bought as wargear then I actually see no reasoning for them counting towards morale checks (theyre there to die instead of the tau afterall)

Anyone found anywhere that specifically states they count towards/against morale checks?

You're looking at it backwards. They are models in the unit, so you would actually need a rule saying they don't count in order for them to not do so.

However, in this particular case, the rules do make it clear. The Drones rules section on page 31 of the codex, second paragraph.

You check morale at the end of the phase if the unit loses 25% or more of the models in a single phase. look at Page 44 for the morale rules.

As insaniak said, look at "The Drones rules section on page 31 of the codex, second paragraph." for additional rules.

Seeing your floating shields dieing rapidly will still make any Tau nervous about what happens when they run out. Hence the logical reason why they do count.

That and well the actual rules support it too, as stated above.
