So it has come to pass that I move from the GW paint lines, GW is changing their paints AGAIN (I knew this was coming), I held out hope, but they have changed things to much, I am done.

So my debate is which new paint line will recvieve my patronage; Reaper, P3, or Vallejo.

Reaper and Vallejo are both ahead on the list due to the dropper bottles, whereas I have personally used Reaper and P3.

I have heard the most good press about Vallejo and P3, but I have not heard anything bad about any of the three choices except for the P3's bottle.

So I am at a loss, I play Black Templar if that helps, I am leaning to Vallejo, but I am bnot so sure.

any help would be awesome.

You may use anything I post, just remember to give me credit if used somewhere else.

I've never used Vallejo, but have heard good things. One thing I really like about Reaper is that the paints come in triads for washing and highlighting.

Surely the best plan would be to get a bottle or two of each line and test them?

I'm looking at getting some Vallejo Model-Air paints for my airbrush, but haven't tried the range yet so can't really comment.

I'm working on making the switch to Reaper. I really like the triad system, and they are cheap enough. You can find great deals. I own the Master Series HD and I'm really liking them. I'll probably still use Foundation and Washes from GW for a bit, though.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

If you are so well informed about the changes and that everything get worse, why not post the information in the news&rumour forum?

QFT - I've been looking for solid information on the change for a month now.

I am a fan of Reaper personally (as I am only a few blocks away from their factory). I feel in love their triads early on and I have never looked back. The only GW paints I tend to use are the metallics which I are pretty top notch for the paint you can buy around here.

If one guy on ebay who claims to be from Nottingham but can't string a proper sentance together actually 'accidentally' got his hands on five pots of paint three months before release, then YES.

If this is a hoax, or he's lying aobut where they came from, MAYBE.

To my failing eyes that looks like a 2011 Date stamp on the bottle though, which means probably Fake.

I suggest discarding the notion of a single brand dedication. Each line has it's strengths and weaknesses.
I use a combination of Citadel, VGC, VMC, P3, Reaper MC, and Liquitex Ink. I can attest confidently that there are flaws characteristic to each, but by picking and choosing you can remove this problem.

Though one thing(as in loyalty-inducing) I really liked in the Reaper MC line was the color triad sets - it can really help with advanced coloring to have them all laid out.

The ebay auction is a possible hint, but not hard evidence. Could be anything, even a GW clouding action (seller is from Nottingham).
So until we know better, your rage quit is not founded on facts.

Well there was the other picture with the P3 pots, so if it's fake it's a better job.

I agree with mixing and matching lines. Some are just better in places than the others.

Been using Vallejo and I have no real complaints. Their silvers, brass, and golds seem to dry up quick. Too make them smooth you have to water the "metallic" colors down. Other than that, I enjoy the paints from them.

So, not to hijack the thread or anything, because it seems pertinent, what may I ask are the highlights and pitfalls of the main paint selection?

I'm also a big fan of the Reaper Triads, and I've been questions the idea of a switch for awhile, if only just for the dropper bottles.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

I have used some vallejo and I love the stuff smooth clean and in a dropper bottle makes it easy to use with an airbrush as well.

Highlights of the current line, as I've understood it, is that the metals give really good coverage. Also, before they pulled an ********* move and pulled them all, every box and tutorial for GW painting had the names of the paints listed.

The down side is that the pot design is poor for serving small amounts. If you mix in the pot you get issues, and if you leave it open to paint from the pot it dries out.

I don't know if other lines have washes, but I can easily see using foundations and layers from other lines with GW washes.

As long as they don't actually change the paint I don't care about name changes. I can live with it and considering GW paint has never let me down I don't feel the need to change either.
