It says the tomb herald takes all wounds for the prince/king on a 2+ before any saves are taken. Does that mean the tomb herald gets his armor/ward saves against the allocated wound? If so does the strength of the attack against the tomb king modify the armor save of the herald? and if the attackers special rule disregards a save does it disregard the tomb heralds save against the allocated wound?

Out of curiosity, what is the purpose of this rule?
what is the point of the herald, when there is a perfectly good skeleton grunt to take the blow?

Skeletons can't choose to take hits in combat on behalf of the prince/king.
When my Wight King rolls into combat, and scores 3 hits, wounding once with killing blow, it's pretty epic to have the herald just in front and take one for the team.

The problem is, that the herald is more expensive than just properly protecting the prince/king in the first place, and the herald himself isn't all that hard to kill.
It would really only be useful if he could protect the priests, which sadly he cannot.

mmmm.... well firstly the herald can only take the first wound IIRC and the purpose 4 taking him is to get a DOE King and give Herald 1_ re-rollable armour save

Don't believe what everone says, I am really a Brainboy who survived the weed wipeout and now I go on secret missions for Tzeench I can also control your mind. (jokes)

You could have a unit of 9 tacticals that are flipping off the enemy with both hands, they still have a bolt pistol and bolt gun.

Oh, so its CC isn't it?
So that means it only works in that one time where the enemy won't challenge the TK in a duel, and just direct attacks at him. I still don't see how its worth it. though a BSB might be nice...

Nope, not the duel. Even specifically says that in the rule.

And that might come more often than you'd think. Sometimes you don't actually want to kill the Tomb King, either because of the Curse, or because you'd have a better chance making saves with a bunch than worrying about Overkill in a challenge- or worrying about keeping a Banner Bearer or Champion with special wargear alive.
