An Igloo Deep North in Canada, eh?

Hey all. I apologize if this is already been covered somewhere, but I cannot find it for the life of me. Anyways, I recently picked up IA 11, the one about the eldar. Now, I don't understand how the IA and Codex interact. Can I use units from either book so long as I follow all the basic rules? (Points, FOC, etc.) Or do I have to pick one book?

Thanks!!

Both players should be using the least durable units possible, with the house rule that all players remove an article of clothing every time you lose a unit, and take a drink every time you kill one of your opponent's units.
I have no idea which army will be triumphant, but I can assure you that everyone wins.

Ask your opponent. In many tournaments the IA units won't be allowed. Friendly games, however, just get permission to add in the IA units.

IA is something you need permission to use in a normal game, asRigeld2 pointed out most tournaments will not allow them at all.

Blood for the bloo... wait no, I meant for Sanguinius!

If you can use the unit in a standard codex army, it will say "can be used in such-and-such army as a whatever choice."

Don't just assume people will play against you using FW units, however, as many people don't like it.

EDIT:
IA books require no-more opponents permission than any other codex, however it's a bit unexpected so many people opt not to play against it, and more people will be upset if you just spring it on them mid-game.

They do require more permission.

Wanna fight my Eldar?
vs
Wanna fight my Eldar with IA/FW units?

See the difference?

As others have said, Imperial Armour books generally require your opponents permission in order to use them.

All games require your opponents permission to play.

Most people are irrationally afraid of FW units, despite there only being 3 not-great models left.

If you explain what you are taking, show them the rules etc you are unlikely to have too many issues - just dont spring it as a surprise.

As said tournaments generally dont allow FW, however (for example) our gaming club, along with a few in the UK, have campaign weekends were FW lists and units are encouraged.

The Eldar army in IA:11 is a completely separate army and list and should be played separately. You pick one book and use it. However, the IA book might refer you to the codex.

As others have said, most tournaments won't let you use it. Some people might not let you play it. Our group allows the various Imperial Armor army lists.

I hope that helps.

So I couldn't take Farseers in a Corsair list, for example? I would be limited to the HQ choices of the IA11?

If you read the IA Corsair list, pa166, you will notice you are allowed to include specific Eldar Codex units.

So if you are running an IA11 Corsair list, you are limited to exactly the entries in the IA11 corsair list - same as any other "codex". Only where explicitly allowed are you able to take units from other books.

If you wish to include specific IA1 units, such as the warp hunt (p181) then it tells you what "slot" it takes up, and who can use it - so Heavy Support in a Codex Eldar army, in this instance

I'll assume you mean pg. 164 about the DE and Eldar. And I get it now, I can see where some say they can be used in Codex Eldar, and others don't say that.

Oops, close...but you see what I mean? The Corsair list is cool, but farseers dont generally go rogue, hence you cant take them.
