As others have said, he cannot join another unit. This is because Mephiston is NOT an IC.

If he was an IC though he could use 2+,3++,FNP Termies as ablative wounds, which is a bit much, so i'm happier he isn't one.

Thankfully he isn't an IC, although if he was he'd probably be closer to 350pts. Makes it much, much easier to kill the bugger.

Can't ICs join Mephiston though? e.g., give him the following bodyguard, librarian w/shield, priest and chaplain.

Where does it say that? I know that he is not an IC and therefore cannot join another unit but I believe that ICs can join any unit unless expressly prohibited. Does Mephiston have a special rule saying that ICs cant join him?

ICs are not allowed to join units of vehicles or units that always consist of a single model. Mephiston is a unit that always consists of a single model, so he cannot be joined by ICs.
