Can't say I have memories because the box is only two years younger than me!
closer inspection reveals the paints appear to be functioning (some are still sealed!)
in the paint box was a little suprise! no sign of his arms though :(
the rest of the box is absolutely mint, the books look like they've never been read and all the card scenery, mission cards, dice etc are there.
also this interesting flier!

Wow... one of the old transparent Citadel bags. Can't remember the last time I saw one of those. This puts this box arriving a little while before WD Issue 200, as the Cadians came about during the mid-point of 2nd Ed.

there's a fair bit of bad spelling on that

if you're up for a bit of detective work, there's another leaflet advertising the grand opening of GW Northampton on 27 May (no year)
so whenever GW Northampton opened, this box was probably around that time.
Anyway, must get on, will put up some more pics later

That is awesome. I can remember the box, but not that much about it. I was only a kid when my Brother bought it. Enjoyed painting Gretchin and Orks in bizarre colours!
Ahh good times. As a kid understanding the rules was just impossible...

A lot of my old WD's had listings for store openings in the UK because they were shipped to Oz directly. Eventually we stopped getting those, so I'd have as much luck as finding the Northhampton store's opening as you I'm afraid.

Be sure to bring the cardboard ork dread to an official tournament. They have to let you field it, it is an "official" GW mini after all.

I love ebay sales that are mislabeled. The OOP Space Marine captain that is commonly mistaken for Captain Draco with a combi-melta and power axe was on ebay for only $19 (he usually goes for $50-75) and labeled poorly. I was the only bidder I now have him sitting on my shelf, waiting to be painted.

Heh. Once played a game where a Cyclone took out half an Ork army in one shot. The game was over pretty quickly after that.

GW Northampton was 16 y/o on the 22nd of October 2011 (found out by looking at the store birthday list for 2011 on the GW website, and then rummaging through their respective facebook walls for the exact date).
So the leaflet is either 16 years old, or refers to a different GW Northampton that opened in May instead of October.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Yes, I am aware I can make a bit of money from it. Certainly the books and cards are in very good condition. I don't really have any desire to use it, it's just interesting to look through.
As an aside, there is/was a SEALED third edition box on ebay, thought that was pretty cool.
Anyway, a few more pics, sorry for the shadows.
The paints, lightly used and still functioning (except the wash)
sprues and comparison, obviously it's easy to dismiss these models as ugly but they have a sort of charm to them (for me anyway :p) the space marine is ugly but is a cornerstone in the design history of the unit. I quite like the orks, the nomad-y look and feel they have in this edition is quite cool.
Books, you can probably see just how fresh they are. Some great artwork and fluff in them.
And the card dread :p I'd get all the cards out but I don't really want to disturb them, most haven't even been popped out.
Anyway enjoy, I'm not going to descend to copyright violations but if anyone wants to make requests for pics of bits and bobs then feel free,
