On the not-too-improbable chance that there may be some other Voltron fans here on Dakka, I thought I'd let you guys know that the first of MattyCollector's new Voltron toys goes on sale today. First up are Lance and the Red Lion.
You can read the Fwoosh.com review here or watch PixelDan's video review here.
If you manage to get your hands on all five lions, they join to form a Voltron that is nearly two feet tall.
A bit pricey for nostalgia, but probably not to badly priced for Warhammer players or toy collectors. Still, would be nice to have a 2ft tall Voltron to keep the place safe. Voltron: Defender of the Living Roomâ„¢.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Not even close. These are completely new molds that, among other things, are over twice the size of either the old Mattel or Panosh lions. The also have a few new features, such as spring-loaded transformations.
The reason you think they look "exactly like the old ones" is that you're remembering the cartoon and these toys are much closer to how Voltron looked in the cartoon than the old toys.

Yeah, at first I blanched at the price. Then I remembered what smaller, (IMO) dinkier contemporary Voltron sets are going for . . . much less how unreasonably expensive table top wargaming can be.

It's not too hard if you have a pile of gray sprues nearby.

Well, originally Black had Blue but Black got hurt so Pink took over for Black in Blue. There is a weird pattern before that, however: notice that Red had Black, Black had Blue, and Blue had Red.
Automatically Appended Next Post: If you can't spring for the transforming Lions, non-transforming "Blazing Sword Voltron" is also being reissued for sale today for 30USD.
Originally a SDCC exclusive, a number of Blazing Sword Voltron figures were sold on MattyCollector back in August.
Yeesh, 80 bucks per? Thats laughably expensive. But cool none the less. My oldest brother used to have ALL of the Voltron toys when we were kids. Pretty cool,Ill have to share this one with him.
Red Lion & Lance: 50USD Yellow Lion & Hunk: 55USD Green Lion and Pidge: 50USD Blue Lion and Allura: 55USD Black Lion and Keith: 65USD
TOTAL: $275
(You can only get Sven if you subscribed to the line back in August)
When the line was first announced, the figures and lions were sold separately. The figures were listed at 15USD each. So really, a complete TWO FOOT TALL transformable Voltron is going for $200. The 80USD price is what someone is already charging on eBay for a pre-sale Red Lion -- that is Red Lion by itself without the Lance figure. The idea there is that the Red Lion/Lance figures will likely go faster than fans will be able to buy them -- thanks in part to eBay salespeople like this person listing "pre-sale" auctions. My point was that you can get Red Lion and Lance for 50USD today or expect to trawl eBay for these ridiculous prices. And with Voltron's track record, these eBay prices will only get worse.
Here are some pictures from this month's ToyFair 2012:

Oh yeah, I remember that. Something to do with a crazy witch with venom, if I remember right.
I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.
if i didn't already have an old voltron set thats like 50lbs of metal and thus will outlast myself and possibly another generation or two, i would maybe consider getting thse. gotta love voltron
Also, the $80 pre-sale Red Lion by itself sold, too, but you can now find a ton of $70-$80 Red Lion/Lance combos on eBay ... Hence why MattyCollector is sold out.
