Drop Trooper with Demo Charge

Ok. I'm switching from armored company to airborne for 6thedition. I've always been heavy into airplanes, and now that GW has models, and IG at that, i get to indulge myself. So, i have 2 vendettas, a buttload of troopers (2 30 man platoons, plus pcs's, and 2 spec. wep. squads w/ flamers), about 20 or so HWT's, 4 squads of vets (melta), and several russes. I've already sold several russes, and all my chimeras. I'm planning on going with 6 or so vendettas, filled with vets, CCs, and PCs. possibly a platoon or two for backup, a baneblade, a few russes, and some artillery. ( i play apoc. as well). I haven't decided on what kind of heavy support (probably hydras), and wanted to see what y'all thought. I'm going with a Blue Angels color scheme. I have a b-17 model i'm gonna turn into "Fat Albert" for a marauder. It's a heavily themed army, but i haven't seen it done yet. I'm thinking of running it like a drop pod style army, but guard.
I figured a ccs (astro, meltas) (in vendetta), 2 melta stormie squads (deepstrike), marbo, 4 vet squads (vendettas), PCS (flamers) (vendetta), 30 man platoon (flamers, commies, plasma), and hydras and russes for cleanup. I haven't worked the exact lists out, but i figured 2k-2500 would be best.

Depends how you want to do it and how you are working the fluff of your theme onto the table. Vendettas are gunships first, transports second. Valkyries are the opposite. If you are wanting to deploy troops via transport, Vendettas in my opinion are not the way to go. If you are using them for air support then you'll be happy with them but they aren't as good a choice as Valkyries if you are doing the whole "Drop Ship Trooper" thing.
Otherwise, an "airborne" themed list would play as foot guard, with gunships as your primary vehicle support. its unfortunate that both Sentinels and Vendettas are in the same location. Leman Russes are a bit heavy for 'airborne' duty the way they are styled. I could be wrong, but i dont think there's a lot of self propelled artillery in most airborne forces. Infiltrators/Scout moves would be helpful, so making use of Creed, Harker and similar wouldn't hurt.
Mind you, I'm assuming that 'airborne' is not the same as 'air cav' to you. They're different things technically but some people use them interchangeably for some reason...

Airborne always seemed a go big or go home kind of army to me. vendettas are just too fragile to be anything outside of a support unit, or anything short of spam.
Plus, running a part-air-cav, part-foot-horde, part-heavy-armor list means that you're probably not going to be able to spend enough points on any one of them to make them sufficiently effective.
You can play air-cav just fine at lower levels (like 1500), until you can figure out how to make a competitive 1500 point list (or, better yet, 1000 point list) out of guard air-cav, I wouldn't bother going to a higher points value. Bloat is insufficient to cover for poor list design.

Check out my Imperial Navy post I made last week. Several of us who play the Navy have figured out a solid list. Check them out. Also check out my battle report of the navy vs basically a hydra tank list
