Another test game to see what all the fuss is about these Grey Knight fellas and prepartion for my game on Friday against Eldar. This time the test game is against the Red Fleas!

Deployment
Grey Knights won the roll off and deployed first, reason for this is it would give the Dreadnoughts time to torrent Devastators to death, the
Devs will be popping Rhinos and that cannot happen. G.K deploy centre of the board in two rows of three Rhinos, the Rhinos are staggered to give cover, just in case. Dreadnoughts were deployed on either flank and in between the Rhinos, at the back, normal Dreadnoughts were in between the Rhinos.
The Fleas deploy top left corner using a large shrine ruin to block
LOS to all jump infantry and also place themselves out of range. One unit of
Devs deployed in a ruin next to the Fleas on their right while two
Dev units deployed in a large ruin on the right flank, a large ruin is blocking
LOS from at least one Dreadnought.
Turn 1
Angels attempt to seize the initiative in order to get closer quicker and get a first turn shooting of missiles in, roll a 5, so no cigar.
G.K first turn. Judging by the distance between the two armies, G.K will have to move a little bit to get psycannons into range. All Rhinos move 6" forward and will shoot through the door way and torrent a melta unit to death. Dreadnoughts hold position.
Shooting; the closest Purifier unit is out of range with psycannons when firing out their Rhino hatch, so everything else will be, so all Rhinos pop smoke. All Dreadnoughts torrent one of the
Dev units on the right flank and wipe out a unit and score the first kill point of the game, they do also deplete the other
Dev squad on the right flank also.
Red Fleas first turn; all jump infantry move and run, the shrine ruin gives cover to most units, though a single melta unit is exposed and a flamer unit, though the flamer unit is behind the melta unit and will get cover.
Shooting; Devastators fire at the Rhinos and the forward most Rhino is wrecked, Purifiers bail out and they don't look happy!

Turn 2
Purifier unit on foot goes ball to the wall and moves out towards the closest melta-flea unit. One Rhino moves back to join the back row of Rhinos.
Shooting; Purifiers on foot and all other squads in the Rhinos torrent the melta unit along with Dreadnought support, 6 Assault Marines remain and they pass morale. Remaining Dreadnoughts fire into the depleted Devastator unit on the right flank and leave a single survivor, the Marine passes morale.
Assault; Purifiers attempt to assault the depleted melta unit, though they are a inch out..:(
Angels second turn; the depleted melta unit bounds over to the front most Rhino, which on on the right of the first wrecked Rhino. The Honour Guard and other melta unit come forward, they won't be in melta range, though that's not really needed against Rhinos. Flamer unit which was behind the depleted melta unit moves up while the other flamer unit bounds over the shrine ruin to add fire support.
Shooting; krak missiles blast the Rhino closest to the Honour Guard so it can hopefully be cleared so the Honour Guard can target the Rhino next to it, the krak missiles get lucky and the Purifier's Rhino blows up killing a Purifier in the blast. Honour Guard fire at the Rhino next along and score immobilised and shaken. Bolt pistols from the melta unit and flamer unit blast into the now exposed Purifiers, though fail to kill any more Grey Knights. Flamer unit in front of the Purifiers on foot fire at them with dual flamers and bolt pistols, one Purifier goes down. Depleted melta unit blasts the Rhino in front of them and scores weapon destroyed and immobilised.
Assault; flamer unit charges the Purifiers and the Librarian casts unleash rage, Purifiers cast cleansing flame and a single Marine dies, a further dies thanks to the Justicar's halberd, though it's a futile effort and the Purifiers are wiped out. The Assault Squad charges the Rhino and makes the tank go boom thanks to furious charge - one Purifier dies to shrapnel to the face.

Turn 3
The Angels are no doubt going to pay this turn as some units are close enough to charge; Purifiers which just got their Rhino blown up by krak missiles move out through terrain ready to assault the Honour Guard. A unit of Purifiers bail out their Rhino ready to counter charge the flamer Assault Squad which just murdered a unit of Purifiers in assault.
Shooting; Purifiers in the crater of their tank on the right formation fire into the depleted melta Assault Marines with support from another unit behind them inside a Rhino, only three Assault Marines left who fail morale and fall back 15". Purifier unit which got their tank blown up by krak missiles fire into the Honour Guard with Dreadnought support, three Honour Guard left and they pass morale. Two units of Purifiers still inside Rhinos fire into the flamer squad along with Dreadnought support and the Purifier unit which is going to charge, only 7 Assault Marines left and they pass morale.
Assault; Purifiers charge the Honour Guard and cast hammerhand, psychic hood fails to block it and the Honour Guard are smashed by force weapons. Purifiers charge the flamer unit and attempt to cast hammerhand, though it's blocked by psychic hood, Librarian fails to cast unleash rage and takes a wound from perils. Assault Marines lose combat, though remain locked.
Red Fleas third turn; the falling back melta unit auto regroups and moves to reinforce the the failing Assault Squad against the Purifiers. The full strength flamer unit bounds over the rumble to attack the unit of Purifiers which forced morale on the melta unit. The other melta unit, which was supporting the Honour Guard, bounds up ready to attack the Purifiers which just slayed the Honour Guard.
Shooting; melta unit blasts the Purifiers, one melta hits and it then fails to wound - no Purifiers die. The other Purifiers aren't so lucky when they get shot by the flamer unit, only the Knight of Flame remains. Krak missiles fire and wreck a Dreadnought.
Assault; flamer unit tries to move through cover to assault the single Knight of Flame, they get a 3" move and needed 5" to no cigar for them. Melta unit charges the Purifiers, Purifiers cast cleansing flame without any problems - Assault Marines lose combat after the Sgt rolls snake eyes to wound with the power fist. Depleted melta unit charges into the Purifiers already locked in combat, the combat is a draw and only two Purifiers are left, though the Priest and Librarian are all what's left from the original unit.

Turn 4
Unit of Purifiers behind the single Knight of Flame, bail out their Rhino ready to assist in combat against the flamer Assault Marines. The last unit of Purifiers inside a Rhino also bail out and move to backup the Purifiers locked in combat with the melta unit.
Shooting; single Knight of Flame and supporting Purifiers blast into the flamer unit and deplete their numbers. Dreadnoughts fire into both
Dev squads, the single man on the right flank is wasted, though the other squad seems to be unstoppable and save every armour save!
Assault; Purifiers charge into the melta unit and both units cast hammerhand without any problems, the melta unit is wiped out, though only the Knight of Flame remains from the original unit. Purifiers in combat with the deplete melta unit, Priest and Librarian attempt to cast hammerhand and it is blocked, the Librarian still dies to halberd and the Priest is smashed by nemesis daemon hammer, though the Purifiers only have the hammer left after the Justicar dies. The single Knight of Flame and Purifier unit charge into the flamer Assault Squad, the full strength unit attempts to cast hammerhand and it is blocked by psychic hood, Librarian casts unleash rage. The single Knight of Flame fails to wound the Librarian (was going to force weapon) and pays the price and is wiped out in return and the other Purifiers do extremely bad rolling to hit, the psycannons caused more wounds than the hammers - combat remains on, though the other Knight of Flame is also dead.
Scouts arrive and bunker down in the ground floor of the ruin as the
Devs, no
LOS can be drawn to them so no worries of giving up a kill point.
Shooting; only the
Devs can fire this time as everything is locked in assault, they explode a empty Rhino as cannot draw
LOS to the single Knight of Flame.
Assault; depleted melta unit kills the single Purifier before he can strike with the nemesis daemon hammer. The Librarian in the flamer unit casts unleash rage as the Purifiers attempt to cast hammerhand, they fail. Assault Marines wipe out the entire squad before the hammers even strike.
Kill points - Grey Knights: 6 Blood Angels: 9
Turn 5
The single Knight of Flame moves into terrain to block line of sight so he doesn't get shot to pieces. The last Purifier squad moves to engage the two man melta unit.
Shooting; Purifiers blast the two melta Assault Marines and wipe them out. Dreadnoughts fire into the
Devs, though the
Devs are solid and pass all armour saves, some shots go into the remaining flamer unit and the Priest gets gibbed.
Blood Angels turn; flamer unit bounds over (only three left including the Librarian) towards the last Purifier unit.
Shooting; Devastators blast the immobilised Rhino from earlier turn and wreck it. Assault Marines blast into the Purifiers with bolt pistols and flamer, the Purifiers do bad on the armour saves and only a single hammer Purifier and psycannon is left along with the Justicar.
Assault; Assault Marines charge into the Purifiers, making sure the Librarian avoids the halberd

Purifiers attempt to cast hammerhead though psychic hood blocks it and the Librarian casts unleash rage. The remaining Purifiers die as the halberd fails to do anything.
Kill points - Grey Knights: 8 Blood Angels: 11
Turn 6
Game continues.
Nothing of Grey Knights moves except a single Dreadnought to get better
LOS on the hiding Assault Mairnes. Shooting wise the Dreadnoughts blast the Assault Squad and wipe out the remaining three Marines.
Angels turn, krak missiles fire at a Dreadnought, though fail to do anything.
Game ends with a draw, 11 kill points each.
Summary
That was brutal! Some bad dice rolls by each force at some points, like only a single hammer hitting when having 9 attacks on the charge and a meltgun and power fist rolling 1's to wound for the Angels.
At the end of the game I realised I hadn't deployed Crowe! What a burke! I am not sure if Crowe would have made a difference, probably would have asborbed some wounds with blade shield, though I reckon he probably would have died in the end. Rematch!
My thoughts about Grey Knights then, well the more I play them the more I like them. I'm still not in the O.P camp just yet, I think the do have some cheesy abilities like fortitude and a little undercosted. But over powered, I am not sure on. They still can take a beating from at least other Marine armies and this time they got a real bloody nose.
Next game is against John. He will be bringing his Eldar so I hope I have sussed out tactics with G.K and got the rules sorted. Hopefully I'll remember to deploy Crowe too!
