I am thinking of putting a TFC + MoTF w/ Conversion Beamer into a ruin.

This is a rather finicky setup so to make them survive a wee bit longer to dish out more shots, I am going to put in some meat shield in the form of Servitors. Apparently MoTF cannot take servitor AND join TFC. So can the Techmarine of TFC take 1-2 servitors with him?

I want to say yes, because of the wording under the techmarine entry, but I also want to say no, due to the wording in the errata. I'm still looking into it.

I'd say no - sure he's a normal Techmarnie after the TFC dies, but I don't see any options in the TFC army list entry for servitors.

The Servitor unit is unlocked by having a Techmarine.
The Techmarine gunner is a Techmarine.

However, he is not an IC so long as the cannon is on the table, so he allows you to take Servitors, but they can't actually join him.

The wordings for servitors say that any techmarine can take them. Tfc is just a techmarine and a tfc. It doesn't say the techmarine has to be an independent techmarine.

He doesn't have to be an independant techmarine to allow you to select the servitors in your army, no.

But they're a separate unit. Without the Independant Character rule (which he doesn't have while the cannon is on the board) there is no way for the Techmarine to join the servitors. They will remain a separate unit.

Insaniak is right. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but the Techmarine gunner also gives you the ability to fortify a building, yes?

Yes, the TFC Techmarine has Bolster Defenses.

OFC at least 3 of those servitor units will be mind locking half the time untill the cannons are destroyed but thats quite alot of cheap plasma cannons and alot of fortified structures.

The codex says that you can take a unit of servitors for every tech marine in your army, The question is, Do you get the servitors when you buy a TFC, You aren't adding a tech marine into your army you are adding a TFC to your army that comes with a tech marine. Personally i say no you can't have a unit of servitors when you use a TFC. Where as when you buy a tech marine, you are adding a tech marine to your army list. It comes down to what unit you are actually adding,

By the way the rest of the posters have made it out to be, If an ork army can't have more gretchen than boyz, you would have to count all gretchen crew members on tanks and the like into that total.

But its all how you and your opponent want to play it. Personally i would have to say no you don't get the servitors, The tech marine on the TFC is a crew member, he just happens to be a pretty good crew member. the wording is kinda screwed up, but thats how i see it.

If such a rule existed, then yes, the total number of gretchin would have to include all of the gretchin.

The tech marine on the TFC is a crew member, he just happens to be a pretty good crew member.

He also happens to be a techmarine.

This is quite intersting so you could take.

Not only that, but you can have three techmarines + sevitors in the elite slots. Not the most efective build but one hell of a theamed mechanicus army.
