I was going to ask for this in a few weeks when my wife gave me my allowance (shut up, at least this way I get spending money), but I think she's gonna take me down to my FLGS for my birthday and let me spend some cash. I need new paints and model brushes, and I want to start from scratch. GW paints have failed me for the last time. The problem is I've only got experience with GW. So here is what I need:

I need paint suggestions. I like the idea of dropper bottles, but which brand does them? Also if you could pick only one brand and 5-10 colors what would they be? I'd make a poll but I'm not familiar enough with my options. Despite brand, what are the top ten colors I should get to hopefully cover a decent range of models?

Brush suggestions would be good too, but I saw another thread on that so I won't push it.

It all depends on what you are planning to paint. If you don't have an idea its always good to get the basic colors. Brushes on the other hand its on personal preference. The best brushes are the Kolensky (I think that's how you spell the name) are the best money can buy. I don't have any of does but I have regular ones that you can get at hobby lobby or michaels. Also back to paint P3 have a really nice range of colors but the vallejo in my opinion are really good.

So both P3 and Vallejo use dropper bottles? I know it sounds weird but I only get to make it into a FLGS about once every six months on my schedule, so I can't even remember brands and paints.

P3 are great paints, but don't come in droppers except for their inks. Reaper and Vallejo both have droppers, and reaper is usually easier to find in stores. Online I have bought Vallejo from squadron.com and paizo.com. Really you will probably be happy with any of the 3. As for what colors, depends on what you are painting and personal preference there. Both reaper and Vallejo make GW equivalent shades, while p3 has a smaller range of paints, but less similar colors.

The reaper master series hd is similar to GW foundation paints and they sell 2 boxed sets for the whole range:

For brushes, dickblick.com sells the Windsor newton series 7 and Raphael Brushes which are 2 of the most popular

Vallejo And Reaper are your bests choices if your going for dropper bottle paints. Reaper Master series tend to be thinner and lend themselves to layering techniques better. Vallejo tend to be a little thicker but are more durable in my opinion. Vallejo has a huge range of colors and three different types : Model color (over 200 colors ), Game color ( meant to match gw colors with similar names) , and Model Air( ultra thin paints designed for airbrush use). They also make a wide variety of mediums and varnishes,as well as inks and washes. All in all Vallejo has alot to offer.
