In the Space Wolves Codex, the composition of the Long Fangs is listed as:
1-5 Long Fangs
1 Squad Leader
To me this says the squad leader + 1-5 long fangs, for an ultimate squad size of 2-6.
Or is it 1-5 Long Fangs of which 1 must be the Squad Leader, meaning you could take a squad of 1 guy with a powerfist in a drop pod?

you must take a squad leader, as the unit composition is 1-5 long fangs, and 1 squad leader.
You can always add the wolf guard into that unit as well.
