Just when I thought Nicholas Cage couldn't elevate his craft to another level, he proves me wrong. And also there's a moment involving a Twinkie that will have you rolling with laughter, then a sudden terrifying realization dawns. And best of all, there's a slow part before the final confrontation where you can take a restroom break if necessary without missing anything important. 10/10
I dunno man, Ill watch it when it comes to DVD, but Im with CT on this one, the 1st one was complete gak. I mean, you can literally go scene by scene and talk about how gakky each part of that movie was.
Wow...I must be one of the only people in the entire world who actually enjoyed the first one. Now, I can't support REAL winners, like Elektra and Ang Lee's Hulk (those were God-awful), but Ghost Rider wasn't too bad. I'm a huge comic book nut-I went and saw Iron Man, Captain America, Wolverine, All X-men movies, Spiderman and just about all the other big name ones on opening day. I've also been buying comics off and on my entire life, own the entire 90s X-men and Batman cartoon series and plan on buying Spiderman when it comes out. I also used to own every action figure I could get my hands on. I'm not just an idiot who appreciates a bad movie, I've actually invested most of my life in the Marvel (and some DC lore with Batman stuff) universe and I actually felt the first one was quite good. If you guys all liked the second better than the first, I'll have to give it a go. Just so long as it wasn't like the sequel to Iron Man-the second was a major let down after how good the first was.

I was a huge comic fan as well, and desperately wanted to like it, but the acting was so god-awful that it was literally painful to watch/listen to from start to finish.
Up until this movie I thought Ben A.'s Daredevil portrayal to be the worse superhero performance to date, but Cage proved with the first ghost rider film that he was a serious contender for that honor...
When I was younger I was able to give more of a pass to stuff like this because I was just happy to see my interests in cinematic form, but as I have gotten older and free time for things like movies has gotten more precious, I just can't ignore the stench coming from movies like this no matter how beloved the subject matter might be to me...

If you thought Daredevil was the worst, you must not have seen Elektra I'm willing to look for the good in most comic movies, but my God, nobody could find good in Elektra. Daredevil is actually my third on the bad scale, following Elektra and the first Hulk movie. Ghost Rider was pretty much right in the middle-it was no X-men (1&2), Spiderman (1&2), Iron Man (1) or Captain America, but it wasn't quite Elektra or Hulk bad. This doesn't include Edward Norton's Hulk movie-that one was AMAZING. I'd actually put Ghost Rider right on par with the FF movies as lower-middle end of the Marvel scale. How did you find Tom Jane's Punisher movie? Because I've heard that one had bad reviews in theaters, but everybody I know owns it and considers it one of the best Marvel movies made. And I think it's great, but again, the top 6 I listed are hard to beat.

Nicholas Cage is one of the worst actors currently in Hollywood... The only movie he's ever been good in was Kick Ass and that's just because his characteristic over acting and ludicrous personal style actually worked in it.
The first Punisher Film, I think it's the one from 2004, was a very good movie. It was fun, entertaining, and captured one of Marvel's more interesting characters in a realistic fashion that functioned very well as an action film. Does it deserve awards? No. But its a pretty good movie to pop some corn sit back and watch.

Looks like I dodged a bullet here. I was taking my son to see it but balked at close to 25 bucks for two tickets to a 3d show.
We saw Chronicle instead and I was pleasantly surprised at how good that show was.

It was a found footage type of show about three high school kids obtain super powers. One is a philosopher type, one the popular kid, and the other a social misfit with a camera. All three are friends, and the movie goes into how suddenly finding ones self with amazing powers affect people.
I don't want to spoil it for you, but it's definitely worth a look.

Hmm... Good to know. I shall certainly see it at some point!

Cage has been excellent in a number of films, like Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, Raising Arizona and Lord of War.
The problem isn't that he can't act, it's that he picks a lot of roles simply for the sake of a paycheque (Gone in Sixty Seconds, The Rock and so on) and a lot more just so he can have fun with a character (like Ghost Rider). Unfortunately, he's never quite figured out that in order for the audience to enjoy a goofy character, it has to appear that Cage and everyone else is taking it seriously. This problem is made even worse when a significant portion of the audience would like the concept taken at least somewhat seriously.

That was the second, the first was made in the 1980s, and starred Dolph Lundgren. It was famously bad.
The one with Thomas Jane was certainly better, but still a pretty pointless exercise. But that's kind of the problem with putting The Punisher on film, the original idea was to take the stories and themes of the actions films of the day and put them into a comic book. By turning that around and putting that character back on the screen, you've taken out the thing that made it interesting in the first place, and you basically end up with just another b-grade action movie.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.
It was pretty poor even by the standards if the day, the second and third attempts are quite watchable.
I like Ghost rider (and Thor!) and even watched it for a second time last week when it was on TV here and was looking forward to seeing the second one.
I saw a review of GR2 in the paper the other day it stated that Mr flamehead only made 3 appearances. That means either allot or not much GR to me. Still can't decide whether to wait for the DVD or not?

Whoa, I just agreed with Sebster on something, I must be getting ill. But seriously, I agree, the guy can be a decently good actor, but usually he just throws himself into movies that his style doesnt fit in with.
And yea, the 80s Punisher was terribad. I mean....Dolph Lundgren should of been clue #1
