So I am at the stage where I have about 40 paint pots and everything is starting to dry out. I've been reading the forums and everyone keeps saying store the paint in the dropper bottles. Now this is a great idea and I am all for it but I have not been able to find them under $1.50 a piece and thats about 50% of the cost of new paint.

Any Idea's about where I can pick these up on the cheap?

P.S. Oh and once I get said bottles, whats the best way to transfer the paints?

What you want are the reaper dropper bottles. They come in packs of three. Warstore has them for $2.49.

that is what you want if you are transferring GW paints into droppers, the pic is of a 10cc, but the link is for 15cc which is what a gw will fill. $.33 each.

These are what I use, and to make shipping not hurt as bad I order at least 50 at a time. I use them for home made washes, and for my Liquitex additives.

The ones I linked(the natural plastic) ones are clear, the pic has a blue fluid in them. They are the same as Reaper or Vallejo bottles just with a transparent cap instead of white or gray.

Also, I use 8mm volcano rock beads as agitators which fit perfectly inside these bottles and have good weight without reacting to the paint.

I never thought about adding an agitator to the bottle, great Idea.

Ok so i just ordered a bunch of those......now whats the best way to get the paint out of the GW pots and into the bottles? I'm thinking a small siphon?

Oh and another silly question, how do you label the bottles?

I use labels from Wal Mart in the office section.

As for transfer, I just pour the paint in carefully from pot to bottle.

A small syringe that is needless is ideal for transfer. If you go to a local pharmacy such as walgreens and ask for one they will usually give you one for free.

Yep, the agitators are a great idea. Small ceramic beads from hobby stores are perfect, I got a pack of 200 for like, €2 and they won't rust or cause colour changes in the paints

As long as the paint is not horribly thickened by drying out, you can just pour it quite easily into the bottlenecks and use a brush to scrape out the remains. The necks on the bottles are qider than you might think and if you hold the paint pots lip against it, you should have no problems. I am terribly clumsy and transferred a full paint set into bottles without spilling any, and if I can do it, absolutely anyone can.

Peel the labels off the GW pots and tape them onto the new pots! Simplest answer is always the best. Also, when the paints are transferred, put a dot of the paint on the top of the droppers lid so you can easily tell what colour they are from above.

Works great!

Oh also, chemists usually sell these very cheap in large quantities. If you havn't already, go to a local drugstore and see if they have any in stock for you.

Dude, you're amazing. That's the best price I've seen anywhere on the freakin' things. Also getting some 8oz (250ml) bottles for doing a few of Les' washes.

Just wanted to give an update. Got the dropper bottles today, and transferred all the paints over. Added the beads as agitators.

Beyond all the other benefits of the droppers its awesome how much space I have gained on my table just in switching over.

Thanks again everyone for all the help!

Glad I could help. It's well worth the investment IMO. And yes it saves a ton of space. I need to order another 50 of them for future washes and the odd GW paint. Mostly these days I'm using Vallejo except for certain select colors from GW.

I'm gonna switch all my GW into droppers, I wanna do some Les Washes, and I'm gonna start transitioning over to Reaper paints. I like them....

I didn't really think it would save that much space, but then again, my storage is based on the paint pots, ya know? I'll have to make myself a lazy susan kind of rack to put the droppers on

I have a couple of the Vallejo paints.

When I first started painting (about 2-3 years ago) I started with Walmart brand (I didnt know better and the wife was still giving me crap about the cost). I than moved over to all GW (didnt know there was any other choice for models). I have about 35 colors so as they run out I'll replace them with Vallejo.
