I was looking to buy a master of the forge but i couldn't find a model for him. What i did find was that if yu brought a techmarine it said you could make a motf. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1060065 What im concerned about though is if it will come with the conversion beamer as the model in the picture doesn't have one.

No, adding the conversion beamer is something you have to do, converting the model.

As of right now, only one GW Techmarine model(in this case, it's a Forge World piece) has a Conversion Beamer.
It's the bit on his backpack.
Name is "Valthex" of the Astral Claws(you can find him under Infantry Accessories), if you'd like to see more shots of him for inspiration.

Pretty much however you want! The thing about a Conversion Beamer is that it's simply an archaic piece of technology. The look isn't really "standardized" in any real sense.
Most of the conversions I've seen involve making it look very much like a pulpy raygun.

I understand the look i just don't know what materials i would use. And is it hard to model things like this? Now i think about it this could be good as i already have a techmarine spare

One thing to consider is if you have any spare heavy weapons from a Devastator box or the like. The body of a lascannon would make for a good start I think.
In terms of materials, there's things like plasticard to work with. You'd be better off(in my opinion at least) cutting up various spare, actual bits and then using green stuff and plasticard to cover up the gaps.

For mine, I used the body of an old Techmarine, part of a psycannon, and one of the Dragon gun barrels from chaos bitz. I then Imperialized it be adding the crux-terminatus to it. I don't have any pictures of mine yet(as it's unpainted), but I'm sure if you search the Gallery you can find lots to use as inspiration.

As a sidenote, here is an older thread which was about the Conversion Beamer.
Please do not post in it, however, as the thread is beyond the acceptable timeframe for "reviving" a dead thread.

The preferable option to Thread Necromancy, if you want to solicit more concrete ideas and feedback, would be to post a thread in Painting & Modeling asking for suggestions, and include a link to the old thread in your first post.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

Indeed. It needs a fez for it to be silly enough for the Doctor!

A quick and dirty way to do the 50s raygun style bit would be to buy a piece of thin brass rod and then look for beads and similar to thread along it to give it the right look. Maybe add a few strips of plastic (available from Plastruct at many hobby stores) for the 'braces' along the top and bottom. The only concern would be to make sure the beads (available very cheaply from a lot of craft stores, I believe) will take paint acceptably.
A good replacement for the 'backpack' would be to dress up a Space Marine plastic backpack. Maybe use a Chaos pack and remove the overtly chaotic bits, then add in other bits. Cables (thin wire or guitar string... I got a pack of mixed guitar strings for under $7 from Amazon that will probably last me for decades) are great for hiding things, and spare vehicle parts are often great to help build up the idea that the Conversion beamer is on an articulated mount. Remember, it doesn't have to 'work' it jsut has to look like it could.
