So first off let's say I'm tweaking a 2500 point list and without putting the whole army list down let's say I have 134 spare points.
Now I already own a unit of 9 Hellions but I've been looking at Scourges. The two options I'm personally musing on is
1. 5 Scourges /w 2 Dark Lances 140 points.
To fit them I'd be dropping a NS on a Venom and putting GT on my Archon's Raider.
Option two uses the Hellions and there is a lot more trimmed from the list
9 Hellions- 189
Helliarch /w PGL and Ag
Dropped items NS on Venom, NS on 2 Ravagers, and NS on Ravenwing, And no Syb on a 20 strong unit of Kabalites....

Now short handing this my army at 2366 has 4 Raiders /w DLs, the Razorwing will more then likely have DLs (not sure yet), 1 Ravager is kited out with 3, and the 20 man unit of warriors has 2...so I have about 10 DL shots, not counting the blasters the trueborn have. I read somewhere here on dakka that a DE army should have upwards 12-15 DL shots in a 2500 point list, which is why I'm considering the Scourges. Even if they can't move and fire with them (also considering blasters or splinter cannons as they aren't built yet).
However I like the look of Hellions, the tables I play on are generally 4x4 so it gets close quarters quick. However I have to cut alot of upgrades out of the army, and most of it comes from the Raider's protective upgrades, to fit them in.
I also have a wacky third option that I'm not entirely sure on yet and that's to take neither. And since my 2500 point list only has 3 troops units I can field another unit of Warriors like this:
10 Warriors- 135
1 Shred
1 DL
Syb with Venom Blade.
Maybe it's the best of both worlds...I guess. But I can't get them a Raider like the rest of the army as the only people NOT flying to big squad out back.

At that many points, you need an additional troop. 3 is just far too few.
I too love the way hellions look, but I hate the way they play. If you didn't need the troop more, I'd have recommended the scourges, hut with haywire boasters. They just seem more flexible, and you can use them right when you land.
I really enjoy stunning landraiders with them....makes easy pickings for a talos.

Well the troop issue can be solved by spliting the big 20 into 2 tens, which I can do easily. If add the other ten kabalites in then it would make 5 troops choices.

Have you played your army before?
You're debating between taking something to help you kill mech or something to help you kill infantry. The easy answer is to take the type of unit that will help you kill what your army has been having problems with.
If it was me I'd take the Scourges because your army appears laughably low on mech killing power. But I'd honestly take the unit of the type you needed killed.

I like scourges with heat lances. They can actually kill things. Not exactly termicide but one can hope.
20man warrior squads with DL? Very old school. I would take 3 squads of 5 each with a blaster in a naked raider or venom with Splinter cannon.
