Question for those more in tune with the fluff than I am.
What is Terra's moon being used for, if anything? Or has it simply been mined out of existence?
I ask because I'm working on a Sisters of Battle army, and I have a good name (Order of the Lunar Rose) and was wondering if them being stationed/homebased on Terra's moon would be something that is viable or downright impossible?

The Moon (Luna) has been converted into a giant orbital defense station. The strongest space-fortress in the Imperium to defend Terra from invasion.
So, lots of Missile Silos, Defense Lasers, hangers for attack aircraft, and moorings for warships.

Think of it as a super HUGE death star 1.5 light seconds from Terrra. If any thing trys to hit Terra they will have to knock out Luna first.

Okay, so would the Eclissarchy have a position there? On the one hand, it makes sense that they'd want more military there, but that may fall to Marine chapters or various flavors of guardsman, etc.

I thing its like mostly navy training and flight schools. Super massive guns and defences and guard. Ad Mech and posibly Astarties. You might find a branch of the hospitalers there. Luna is fairly big so go for it.
SoB in Luna gray and black trimming...I might pinch that...damn still metal :( ........When the make plastic ones when they make'em

While I don't know if this will help you, but sisters can appear anywhere because they are not limited to being battle sisters. The Orders of the Adeptas Sororitas are highly trained individuals and servants of the Imperium/Ecclesiarchy in any number of disciplines: diplomatic, administrative, medical, martial, etc. While they are all trained in battle, they are not all battle sisters.
So while I don't know that it would make sense for full on battle sisters to be based on luna, I could definitely see any number of orders working there in other roles. Earth is the spiritual center of the Imperium, and the Ecclesiarchy is going to have a presence there. And where there is the Ecclesiarchy, there are the Adeptas Sororitas.
An Order based on Luna would likely have non-military goals as their focus. Luna is a huge place, and certainly needs all the skills the Adeptas Sororitas bring to the table.
Which isn't to say you couldn't have an army from such an order. Again, all sisters are battle ready, and almost any order is going to have the ability to organize a battle force should the need arise. And it could be fun to create battles and campaigns around what caused them to take a military action.

Ecclesiarchy probably maintains temples and churches for the crews and personnel stationed on the Moon. It's also likely they have "holy shrines" at historic places.
The defenses of the moon themselves are maintained and manned by the Imperial Navy, Terran PDF, and perhaps the Adeptus Mechanicus. Unlikely to find anyone else permanently stationed there otherwise.

You know...all what a bunch of heretics have to do is capture Luna. Then bye bye Terra.
Fortunately for humanity, it is heavily defended.

Eh, you could make it work. Just say it started as a Preceptory of... let's say the Argent Shroud, stationed on Luna to defend holy sites and high-ranking officials. The lunar organization spent enough time operating more or less independently that it eventually split off into its own organization. Maybe after the Canoness lead some or all of the Preceptory off on a war of faith and achieved great acclaim leading her forces against the enemies of Mankind.

its also where the Primarchs were created.
The Emperor's labratories were located deep inside Luna and that is where the Astartes and Primarchs were born.

That makes sense, and I'm liking that. Thanks for the feedback!
