I'm trying to decide which list is more of a TAC list, which would allow me to deal with Hordes and Mech armies effectively.

The more I think about 10 Sternguard Veterans dropping in turn 1 to unleash 20 Hellfire shells on an enemy MC unit, or 10 Combi-melta squads into two tanks (combat squadding), i get all giddy. Terminators are too easy to tarpit, or end up on the wrong end of whatever.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

-Crazyterran

I like the first list more. I'm not completely sold on snipers, but then people don't always use them effectively.

Concerning the first list, 10 combi-meltas may be overkill. Also remember that if you combat squad them, one will be on foot, the other in the drop pod.

Both are very similar to lists I am working on, and while I haven't run SM much since Rogue Trader, I face them often enough.

Personally, I'm more fond of the "Plasmabacks" LC/TL-Plasma Guns as opposed to the TL-LC Razorbacks.

Something to point out: I love the fact that you are capitalizing on the Marine Codex's biggest advantage......cheap vindicators.

Oh, when running assault termies, I'd suggest 2 LC, 3 TH/SS. That way you get some claw attacks in against whatever you assault, and get a bit more use out of the squad. Unless you're constantly up against GK or something similar, I'd say it's worth dropping a SS or two.

Interesting mention......posting as C:SM, my first impression was that this was a Chaos Space Marine List, and I was thrown off.

The main reason I don't use LC/TL-PG is because I don't have a model to represent it. I have a bit of a stick up my rear about that.

And I thought that you can Combat Squad them after they jump out of a drop pod? I'll double check the FAQ...

The choice is made before deployment.

I understand the model, I'm working on converting a couple myself, atm.

Yeah, ok, maybe I'll drop 5 of the Melta Guns (or so) and the Powerfist out of the squad and throw the 50pts elsewhere? Maybe upgrade the Librarian to an Epistolary?

If I understand the rule correctly Drop Pods are a bit unique for deployment. Such that you either have the whole squad in the pod and then combat squad on landing.. OR deploy them on the field with normal deployment and have an empty pod. So again If i understand it you can not have half on the field and then have half in the pod in reserve, they all deploy as one.

That was my understanding too, they'd drop into combat as the full 10 people, then combat squad once they get out of the drop pod.

I'll have to reread it, because I swear that's how it worked.

Oh, my mistake, it's on pg. 51 of the Codex and specifies that drop pods are a unique exception to this.

It threw me off, because I had heard this before and read all over the drop pod entry and couldn't find it. It was under the combat squad special rule.
