I was wondering when they're going to re release the Tau rules. I also was just on GW and saw that they are moving from Necrons to cast models for SW. It's like waiting to be picked in duck, duck, goose. If it isn't your army...we just wait for our spot of attention. =/

Forgeworld are still making units for Tau. They have recently given the Tau some love with the updated Tetra rulings etc...

So I would honestly assume Tau will get some love in the next 18 months or so at best....

But for now keep buying those XV8 ans XV88 suits and perhaps add a Tetra or two for spice!

They just have so much potential and it seems like they've been forgotten.

My feelings exactly. I might start playing Tau again if they brought out a new wave of shininess and updated the rules.

It just seems like certain armies...*cough* (SW and Chaos) get SO much attention. The BA special characters are the same ones from when I first got into 40k in 1999...c'mon! Share the attention GW! When Tau first came out I thought it was such a different approach and so new but then they seemed to just disappear.

Many armies can feel this way.

The thing to realize is that GW is--more or less-- moving away from the idea of "X needs to be updated because it's this old!" and more towards "X needs to be updated because it needs to be updated". The reason the Tau might be taking so long is simply because of the amount of design work needed for models and the book proper.

Many of the Space Wolf characters are the same ones from that same era though.

Njal the Stormcaller, Lukas, and the recently released Arjac Rockfist are the only "new" infantry characters the Space Wolves have gotten. Canis Wolfborn and the new Thunderwolf mounted character are actually new as well.

The rest of the releases are simply old metals altered into Finecast.

Personally, I think the new codex and models will be released within the next 4 months, before 6th edition. Every rumor I've heard focuses on a couple of specific points with little deviation:
Demiurg
Tau Dropship
Tau fighter (skimmer/flyer) potentially a plastic Barracuda
New kroot options/ plastic Krootox and Kroot hounds
New Vespid options
A Lot of special characters (the 3 old ones and 4 new ones)

Given the size of the recent Necron update, I could see a lot of these coming into existence, on that note it looks like 6th edition will focus heavily on airborne combat (just syain')

I just started playing Tau, so I don't really feel like I've earned the right to complain about anything, but I'd like new rules for them, sure. New models, that'd be nice. I don't really think they are so out of touch that they are unplayable, but that's just my opinion, of course.

I just got Tau and the IA:2nd Edition. All the book really needs, IMO, is some updated rules that include the IA stuff. The models are fine.

Tau had two releases in the 9 year gap between SW 3rd ed and SW 5th ed. SW then waited another 2 1/2 years for their 2nd wave which has just arrived. This is just part of the normal cycle GW has, it may be a long one and have its flaws but Tau definitely aren't even close to the worst sufferers.

This is a good point. When you consider Firewarriors are a pretty badly cut sprue, and the problems people have with Battlesuit ankles, I wouldn't be surprised if the entire range got an update. Newly cut Firewarrior sprue with better fitting models, plus options for Pathfinders on the sprue as well. New Battlesuits is a given, which would probably at least have a separate 'upgrade sprue' with railguns and any other new upgrades they want to give them.

The only models I can't see getting a massive revamp is the vehicles. Add on top of this the likelyhood of a new alien race, and I wouldn't be surprised to see new Vespid sculpts. I also wouldn't be surprised at a newly cut Kroot sprue, maybe even a second and third for hounds and ox. There's a lot of work to do to the non-vehicle models in the range, which, as Kanluwen said, likely has something to do with the wait.

I agree with you sir. The only large down fall of the Tau ATM is the cost for the troops and the fact that we have now way of defending ourselves in close combat so more often then not DOW is DOOM for the Tau unless you can grab inish.

I think they should do plastic XV9 models...

But overall, i think everything is fine in the codex, they could make a Vespid Queen or something or some sort of Kroot special character. Another vehicle or two, and more drone types. Fire warrior improvements. Oh yes and make Ethereals worth taking.

I agree with all of you. It WILL take a while. It just feels like Tau are missing something.

good close combat defence rules for troops. It would be nice if we can get a "stand and shoot" special rule on turns we get charged.

It would have been nice of them to resculp Dante and Mephiston. I was kind of upset that they didn't do that. Dante looks like a tool compared to the modern special HQ's.

Take Sanguinator... clip off hands... add inferno pistol... axe... There. Brand new Dante. Looks awesome.

Mephiston on the other hand... He could use a resculpt.

I like the way you think. I was thinking of using the Sangiun guards pack for Dante. Mephiston looks very outdated IMO.

The Nanosecond they get a new Tau codex out and some new models, I will buy it all. I like the Tau (not so much the Ethereals), and they've always been an "almost" army for me.

I get that feeling over any rumors of the drop ships

Tau drop ship seems unlikely. Just like the summer of fliers... Or the plastic thunderhawk, warhound etc people have claimed is coming soon. I'll believe it when I see the kit on the shelf.

I dunno. GW seem to like doing a big dual kit for all new armies. I could see a new large aircraft for Tau, though a dropship on the scale of the Orca is unlikely.
