It really isn't all that hard to play 40K in 15mm, and it is very inexpensive. Here is what I use. Most of them require painting, and not all are perfect fits:

Orks: http://www.15mm.co.uk/HOF8_Shia_Khan_Maligs.htm

Imperial Guard: Since the Imperial Guard was pretty much designed to look like WW2 Soviets, with a few German types and clanky vehicles thrown in, many A&A minis seems like pretty good fits without even much repainting such as:

Curious what others think of this idea.

Isn't 15mm stuff for 40k just Epic 40k?

A couple of sample fights. The first is an Inquisitor and his posse aboard a space hulk. The second is an ice world battle between Imperial Guard and Orks.

Please note that in neither case is the photography any good, as these were taken with a camera phone, but both scenarios should give a general idea of how things looked.

EPIC is 5 or maybe 6mm. Note that I have seen people play Inquisitor in EPIC scale, as a travel game.

15mm is just another way of doing things. I like it as an intermediate scale.

Played it myself a few times, though I did it with the minis I already had for 40k. There was no way I was gonna lay out all that cash... blah blah blah... time making new terrain... yaddah yaddah, etc. I'm sure you've heard it before.

That said, I did enjoy the game.

Huh. They worked a little while ago. Try going to the main website of each.

No, I believe EPIC is actually 6mm (CRAZY!!!).

I think given the take up of Drop Zone Commander, I would Suggest to GW that any future EPIC 40k, should be 10mm. It would allow better detailing and easier painting. It would also force all of us to re-buy everything which GW would love.

That said 10mm is a good scale, it's smaller than FOW and with FOW you get alot of Tanks but not armies of them. 10mm will be suitably playable and Epic in scale to convey that sense of Awe.... 6mm is great but really small....

Anyone still interested in this stuff, should visit the NETEPICGOLD site the rule books etc are free...

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

Inquisitor is just a prototype of the RPG rules. If you've seen people play Dark Heresy or Deathwatch you've gotten pretty close.
