My view as a console player is that the MMO basically took the franchise away from me. I understand that MMO's on the scale of World of Warcraft (what they were aiming for) are huge money earners for big investors. But I don't follow Bioware/Lucasarts logic that every console player would have a tripped pout gamesplaying PC, linked to the internet and be willing to pay every month what they do on X-Box live. Neither three suit me at all. An MMO is a very expensive investment, not to mention the fact that, from what I've seen on youtube many of the stories appear of questionable quality though I haven't seen enough to get a firm judgement. Surely doing what they've done has severely limited the audience the franchise can go to.

Personally I think that theres no reason why they couldn't make a single player KoToR 3. Surely theres enough demand for such a game from console players?!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, monthly fees aren't necessary for a MMO, they are perceived as necessary because that's the way things were. Let's stick to that logic, and go back to thinking the world is flat. Heh.

It's just a stunt to try to pull in the KOTOR players and the WoW players for money, but instead of making a game, they made an MMO, a subpar MMO at that that's basically a single player game with multi-player options, just for money. That's the only reason. They don't care what the player base wants, unless they can make money off of it.

I wanted KOTOR 3, or, the old republic without a monthly fee. I would have been fine with either, but I will not lower my standards just to play a game, that in all honesty, we don't NEED to play.

Exactly, I would love to play a KoToR with Mass Effect graphics. Yet they bring out the MMO with the 'unique art style' thats just a cover for 'we don't have the moneys or tech so we'll just make the graphics cartoony and pass it off as unique'. They may say its eight or nine KoToRs but whats the point if you compromise the single player story?

I'd have prefered KotOR 3, but TOR's not bad. Its funner to level when there's an easily followable story and some of the stories are actually pretty decent (Bounty Hunter, Jedi Knight, Imperial Agent, and Sith Inquisitor). Of course, I can't say the same for voice actors. The Trooper in particular is a master of horrible delivery (And the Male consoler is about as interesting a glue on paper).

I wish they had simply done KotOR3. It's not an issue of console vs PC gaming (I typically game on console, but have do play the occasional PC game). It's an issue where I simply don't have the free time that is needed for an MMO.

I really only have the spare time for about 100 hours a month. For most games, that means I can play 2 or so a month (with a few games, like Skyrim taking 2 months), and that's about the rate that games that I want to play come out. If I start playing an MMO, it will take up all my time for a year or two. I simply don't want to devote all my gaming time to a single game.

No, I agree, its not console vs PC. Battlefield 3 n Operation Flashpoint was console vs PC because they got the better service both online and graphically. But if not everyone has a PC that can play the MMO or doesn't commit that much income to gaming like me then you're pretty much pushed out of the franchise. Time is another issue like you say. In fact I've heard several of my friends tell me that MMO is closer to a lifestyle and makes it very difficult to get players to swap between them like Mass Effect or Skyrim. I just can't understand why they'd take such a collossal risk and leave a very popular franchise by the wayside. That said I've heard that its done well sales wise.

I am fine with the MMO

I don't fully uderstand the rabid following Kotor (and to a lesser extent kotor 2) had.

Star Wars Battlefront on the other hand...

The RPG had a fairly nice story, especially certain elements of it like Bastilla/Revan which was a neat reinvention of the Star Wars tale. KoToR two had better all round characters though it was let down by missing dialogue and missions. Neither game won many points on the action front though it could create a sense of suspense through the story.

How would you feel if they made a new Battlefront or even Call of Duty PC only and you had to pay £40 every month? Pretty bad I'd imagine?

KotOR Was up to that point, arguably the best Star Wars game ever made. I'd argue its still the best Star Wars game ever made. It also came out at a time that was pretty dark for Star Wars fans, as the EU was trudging along in a gutter of repetitive crap, and the Old Republic Era became a breath of fresh air.

How many clones of the Emperor did Luke kill again? How many Imperial Remanant groups arose to somehow challenge the New Republic? I know, dreadful.

Exactly. The EU was really really bad at that time and KotOR was one of the first Star Wars games to really delve into the Lore. Pod Racer was pretty good. Rogue Squadron was one of my favorite childhood games, and the Jedi Knight series was around, but none of them used the source material as well as KotOR did (and it really was just a great game so people remember it fondly).

I would have preferred KoTOR 3, honestly. I'm extremely jaded about MMOS nowadays - I was coerced into buying into three different MMOs, two of them at launch, and I hated all three of them. It's not because I dislike MMOs - I've probably got a few thousand hours logged on World of Warcraft. It's just that I've totally lost any interest in playing other MMOs based on three lousy ones that soaked up a a couple hundred bucks between buying the game and paying for a few months of playtime. Plus, if I spend $15 for a month of play, I'm instantly weary of any time I'm not spent playing it - if I so much as get bored of the game for a few weeks, that's money down the drain.

In short, that's why I would have preferred a KoTOR 3. Because I can throw $50 at it and keep it forever. I can play it once at launch, and then keep playing it long after I first spent the initial price.

You don't think Battlefield 3 was a proper sequel to the second game? Never played it myself but its meant to be like the Bible for PC shooter fans from what I gather.

If I could just play the class story missions and skip all the other garbage, ToR would be an amazing game and I'd probably play one of every class.

Unfortunately, that isn't possible, and all the gakky MMO quests/junk gets in the way of otherwise pretty good story missions.

So uh yea, single player (or coop) KOTR 3 would be my preference. Getting a bit tired of MMOs.

Plenty people played the game on console. I'am not spending hundreds of pounds for a temperamental machine that will be outdated in a month on top of a monthly subscription to play on a video game. Oh it was mine alright.

Including me. Didn't give me a sense of entitlement to the property becuase I played a game. I wouldn't mind KoToR 3 either, but cie la vie.

KOTOR 3 - easy choice...but if I was in charge, I'd make Battlefront 3 before anything else
