I'm a bit weirded out that we don't have a discussion thread for this. Saw a lot of talk prior to realease but after that...nothing

no one playing this game at all?

I just finished the campaign and Im currently finishing the sidequests and the riddler trophies.

Now bear in mind I wasn't able to play Arkham Asylum so take whatever I'm saying with that in mind

What I loved:

I AM Batman - Taking out 6 armed goons without giving them the opportunity to fire? Clearing out a room without getting detected? Taking on 12+ goons in a brawl without getting hit? The various takedowns? YES. I am the goddamned Batman. Everything I mentioned is all possible but is just HARD enough without being an exercise in frustration that makes you feel awesome when you pull it off.

The sense of urgency in the campaign - Yes i KNOW that you can take your time hunting for trophies while Arkham city waits but the way the campaign is presented still makes you want to get to the next mission "before you run out of time!". Strange counting down for Protocol 10, your lifebar getting shorter, the CHOPPERS! Everything is presented in a totally immersive way that makes you want to deal with everything as soon as you can. I played skyrim for HOURS and I never felt once that anything was important enough to prioritize. I never even touched the campaign In Arkham City I find myself fighting with my inner completist because I dont have the time to get that trophy! (even though i do). And even then you dont feel like youre being railroaded but end up agreeing with the (rare)choices the game makes for you in a "yeah that makes sense" kind of way. Alfred is right and you know it Bruce! Keep it in your pants!

The voice acting - BTAS cast (or close enough) what more can i say?

The varied gameplay - Batman can do a lot of stuff and you end up using EVERYTHING you get and everything you learned. Thats just great design right there. No mode of play ever overstays it's welcome so if "predator" isnt your cup of tea you only have to go through short bursts of it and you can move on to stuff you DO love doing.

What I didnt like:

Catwoman's makeup and overall look - they missed "seductive" and hit "slutty" instead. And can she STOP kissing the mooks? She's in a prison with thieves, rapists and murderers... you dont know where those lips have been woman!

actually to be honest I REALLY didnt like how most of the women looked in this game. Harley and Vicky vale are acceptable but I found myself not liking Catwoman and Talia at all...Catwoman for the reasons stated above and Talia just looks ..."badly drawn "... I think its the chin

I think I've ranted long enough. What do you guys think of the game?

Hey, I just met you,
and this is crazy,

Still need to finish AA first, once that is done I'll be getting it. Well as long as the game save bug on the 360 has been sorted anyways.

wow one response so far. lol. I should probably get Arkham Asylum now.

I just finished collecting ALL the trophies and completed the physical challenges

all of them.

all 400 of them

and theyre all perfectly doable with the right amount of skill (which you will have by endgame) and patience

this is new for me because any time a game asks me to "collect" something I have flashbacks of FFX's horrendous weapon sidequests that rely waaay too much on luck (damn butterfly!) and I often just dont even bother :|

I'm weaned on NES games and I know what Nintendo-hard means. I've also played tons of PS games that redefine "no effort" gaming. Arkham city sits in a happy balance between the two. Hard enough to make you sweat but everything is doable without being that Korean/Chinese video game god kid that everyone knows.

sweet.

Its not really carpal tunnel inducing because one of the great things about ninja gaiden, is there is no button mashing, if I press X then X again before the move completes it will automatically chain them together with perfect timing unless you jump/dodge/ninpo cancel out, out to about 5 attacks from current, so there''s no jamming on buttons to get the right attacks off.

does it make the game any easier? hell no, lol.

Meowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

1. Who do you THINK the Catwoman (this version) is modelled after? Hale Berry?
2. What do you expect the Catwoman to looks like? do you expect that she will be modelled after Eartha Kitt?

Actually, I'm with him on this one. Catwoman's costume in this game has more fanservice about it than a huge stack of Sucker Punch DVDs.
It's kind of irritating, really, as other incarnations of the character aren't as blatantly boobtastic, and yet remain perfect in their role as femme fatale. An example would be the way Tim Sale draws her, for example.
Sure, make her sexy, let's face it, the comics do. But let's not take it as far as gravity-defying bra-less cleavage, that's just a cheap way to get horny lonely kids to pay for her as an upgrade to the game.

I didnt EXPECT anything

but i did hope that after seeing her costume in the first promotional materialls she would looks more like the Adam Hughes version:

http://www.google.com.ph/search?hl=tl&q=hughes%20catwoman&gbv=2&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi

and IMHO while very very idealized, theres nothing slutty or trashy about AH!'s take on the character

Arkham City is a great game. I just finished up the main story and am working on completing the sidequests and Riddler trophies.

But, I think the open world style was actually a little disappointing. AA was much more linear, and because of that, it actually played a bit better, IMO.

I've also been following the community's hunt for the big easter egg revealing the next game. They've found some really interesting ones, but there's clearly something big still to be found. The light flickering in the GCPD building is actually an encrypted Morse code signal reading "IM AT ENTRANCE GATE BEHIND FAKE WALL". There's also a single frame during the cut-scene with Robin that shows Batman staring at a wall. They've found the spot (near Crime Alley), but can't figure out what to do with the wall. And, there's a hidden room near the processing center that you can glitch a remote controlled baterang into, but no one can figure out how to get inside.

You probably haven't seen the MK vs DC Universe version of Catwoman. Not very pleasant to the eye but at the same time her boobs are trying to fall out of her bright purple costume with a zip half open down the front.

The game itself is pretty damn good. Good gameplay mechanics, Batman feels as badass as he should, but I found more often than not the thugs with guns were.. well, for lack of a better term, overpowered, especially the shotgunners. Good lord the amont of times I died because one thug with a shotgun blew me away in one shot. The only other concerns I have is that you don't really get a full on encounter with the typical villians you run into. It's like they're there, they do their thing, you beat them up, they disappear, bar Joker and Mr Freeze. Two Face was the worst culprit of this. He turns up what once? and you never see him again.
As for side missions they're pretty good on the whole. I don't approve of having to run around the city finding a ringing phone though then playing minigames to track some guy, or Riddler's endless amount of trophies. The mission involving Azrael was pretty badass: if that guy was made into a model I'd buy it

I love Arkham City.

Arkham Asylum was a fantastic game, but Arkham City was a cut above. I’ve played through it 4 times since I got it, one of those times getting all the Riddler trophies and doing all the side quests – even the final Catwoman one where you get all your stuff back from the (heavily armed) Two-Face goons. Playing it through with cartoon Batman is funny, as Catwoman and Robin are both their cartoon versions, which is a nice touch.

I’m intrigued about these additional Easter eggs though.

He's the final 'boss' in the Catwoman sections. If you move around the city slowly between each major set piece and listen to all the thugs that are having long conversations, they talk about the politics of the three rival gangs (Joker's, Penguin's and Two-Face's). Over time you hear about Two-Face "coming back" and slowly but surely the Two-Face goons take over most of the city.

By the time you finish the game proper and get to the last Catwoman section, Two-Face has most of the city (only the Steel Mill remains Joker's territory). Then you get to fight Two-Face in the museum.
