Final trailer for Avengers film (now called Marvel Avengers Assemble in the UK, lest the audience expect Steed and Emma Peel to make an appearance)

It looks mostly fun, but vears dangerously towards Transformers territory in the final few shots....

Aye I head desked when I saw that this morning Flashman, the 'Marvel Avengers Assemble' part I mean.

Its like with Eureka becoming 'A Town called Eureka' you know just in case folks switched it one started scratching their heads when they couldn't see Jeremy Beadle or Sarah Greene.

Yes, daft title (for us anyway). And somewhat unnecessary having released no less than 5 prequels that referenced the Avengers fairly frequently.

Also slightly concerned that Samuel L Jackson appears to be in Star Wars prequels acting mode.

The big robot at the end is apparently called Fin Fang Foom. Somebody more versed in comic lore than I, will have to explain who/what this is...

Fin Fang Foom, really. Gimmie a sec.

Oh and yeah trailer is work blocked.. dang it.

Yeah I remember him from an old Thor comic... and the TSR Marvel superheroes RPG, didn't like his look so never used him.

I'd have thought with Loki as a key villian we'd have seen this guy.

Fing Fang Foom? Wow, he sure got inorganic. He's a flesh-and-blood dragon in the comics. His inclusion almost makes me wonder if the Mandarin is involved. Maybe it's a lead-in of sorts to the next Iron Man, I dunno.

The action sequences look good, but I want to see how the rest work out. You have two majorly different power levels on the team that will require different visual approaches to the action.

Kinda seems from the trailers that Thor and Cap learn to get along, and I think that's a solid characterization. Cap's fought in war and is nothing if not gutsy, and I think Thor would respond to that.

Apparently there are some issues with who holds the rights to use Skrulls in films so it seems they are not-Skrulls-Skrulls. Someone found an obscure alien race that had some similar visuals in Marvel history and it is thought they might be the stand in. Obliviously Loki is there as well.

I don't think the ship and/or robot thing is Fing Fang Foom, though he is an alien (he just looks like a dragon) and could help set up Iron Man 3, as far as explaining where Mandarin gets his power rings. Still, I don't think it is him.

I liked the part where Hulk grabs Iron Man out of the sky and slides down the building.

The claim for the name change in the UK is becuase of the TV show, and I guess technically movie, The Avengers and an attempt to avoid confusion. It seems a bit silly to me but then I suppose not everyone is a comics fan that knows all this stuff. I am reminded of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone in the US instead of the actual Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Hmm...didn't know that about the Skrull rights. Maybe they'll just call them the Chitauri.

The name change is a little silly, but less silly to me than making the Red Skull a not-really-Nazi, legal complications be darned.

I think it was when the Fantastic Four rights were optioned they were a part of it.

Red Skull was a Nazi though, he just didn't feel they were hardcore enough so he made a splinter group of super hardcore Nazi's called Hydra.

Agreed.

Not my favorite team comp. for avengers, I'd prefer Vision/scarlet witch era team, but timeline requires this...

Still a damn shame about Norton, but what can you do?

Every one of them play their characters well, so we can rule out bad acting, so unless the Script or the Action is bad, I really don't see this being a bad movie.

This is what happens when you don't have good border security, the illegal aliens just try to take over.
Color me not especially impressed. Iron Man good, the rest throw in the bin.
(and if aliens have attacked and despite all the tanks, aircraft, missiles, nukes and crap in Frazzled's closet only a guy in a suit seems able to do anything, WHY DON"T YOU JUST MAKE A LOAD OF GUYS IN SUITS?

Aye, Norton was good.

It will be amusing to see how "girl with guns" and "bloke with a bow and some custom arrows" will do when teamed up with a god, a super soldier, a bloke in power armour and an essentially unstoppable engine of destruction.

I'd proffer its unstoppable force, iron man, and Thor as top tier. Captain America is just a guy with a proper outlook on life.

Thats what I don't get. I guy who can punch walls is better at fighting aliens than the US Air Force?
Meh. (rewatches Peter Weyland video clip).

Yeah, just like a guy with an Axe in Reign of Fire kills more dragons than the entire world military.

It's just a movie.... and worse... a comic book movie. I'm willing to give a little suspension of disbelief to roll with the premise.

Ay and there's the rub. I don't have that level of suspension of disbelief.

I think it looks fun. Though I agree that I'm not excited about how Hawkeye and Blackwidow fit in. I could honestly watch the movie just for the four big kids.

I'm also hoping Rufalo does as well as Norton did. They are some decent sized shoes to fill.

It's a similar conceit to what we see here all the time in the zombie threads. That a bunch of gamer geeks would somehow end up the biggest bad-azz, hardcore zombie killers in a world where the militaries have obviously failed.

But a number of you have touched on what I said earlier...it's going to be interesting how they make the visuals and story work for Cap, Widow and Hawkeye while Thor, Hulk and Iron Man are throwing buildings around. It works more easily in a comic book than in a live-action movie. Maybe Cap, Widow and Hawkeye will be doing sneaky, espionage-type stuff, I dunno.

Likely. They have to sneak into the evil alien complex (maniacal laugh...maniacal laugh...) and retrieve the Magic Box er alien power nodule, whilst outside the aliens 'are distracted' by the other three drawing them off. Thor will confront Loki but neither will die. In fact none of them will die.

Cap would be typically be fighting along side the Air Force, if not leading it in some capacity. He isn't a replacement for the military. Think of them as the sharp end of the spear when dealing with grave threats, not the entire spear itself.

In the Ultimates Black Widow and Hawkeye (who didn't use bows that much) were brought in becuase they were actual killers with spec forces training and then some. They were the information gathers and executioners.

Spoiler:
Of course at the end of Ultimates II Hawkeye shoots Black Widow in the face after it turns out she was a traitor and had a bunch of people killed, including his family.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Aye, my judgement is still out on that, but hopefully he'll be good. The change of actor for Rhodes in Ironman worked out fine as far as I was concerned.

Saw the trailer last night, interesting appearance at the end, love pretty much anything Stark says due to Roberts fine potrayal, really eager to see this one in the cinema, hopefully I can arrange something, as I know Aura wants to go as well, as probably will the eldest lad. Just need to rope in a relative to watch over the baby and middle one.

Im still going to watch it, although it did start looking a bit cluttered in the end. I laughed when it did the final pan around the group, Giant angry hulk, Capt America lookin all bad ass, Iron man coming down, Thor being a god, the archer lad lookin all gruff, tiny woman reloading a pistol...................erm........................?
