So Im getting two of them half off, new in box, and was wondering if they are a good deal. Ive been using cardboard while i plan on making my own. But if i get these should i just use them or sell them to make my own. I need trays for a lance of 12 bret knights, 2x 9 kinghts, a group of 40 M@A, and 2 units of 20 bowmen. Oh and 3 peg knights.

A lance is 3 knights wide instead of 5.

I think they are one of the best gaming accessories that GW sells. Easy to use and they can be finished to fit your army's bases. And they are far easier than making your own as the measurements are already marked for you. The only real work involved is the cutting of the base and side rails which is easy with a hobby saw. For once GW got something right.

See i was kinda cautious at it being a gw product for only $10. Figured it would be rubbish. But if its easier then scratch building ill use it. Especially since im getting 2 for $10. So would it make enough for what i need movement trays?

Iirc, they come in 200mmx200mm squares with each side marked in 20mm or 25mm increments. And each pack comes with 2 squares, again iirc(I'm actually gonna buy a pack today so I can verify this later). So you figure you could make trays that will fit 4 deep cavalry bases which is big enough for your unit of 12 knights and they come 10 wide on the 20mm side for making horde trays. I think you will be quite pleased with them. They are simple and straightforward.

The sheets are 200mm x 200mm. That's either 8x8 (25mm) or 10x10 (20mm). Each package has 2 sheets, 16 corners, and 12 straight edges.

From what I understand you'll need (all measurements in mm) 1 @ 75 x 200, 2 at 75 x 150 (9 knights are in lance?), 1 at 100 x 160, and 2 at 200x40.

If you're careful you might be able to get everything on 2 sheets.

Also, the trays are essentially "snap apart." I suggest scoring them a couple of times where you want it to break, but after that just put the edge you want to break on the edge of a shelf and slowly work it back and forth.

A shockingly good deal, especially from GW.

I prefer to use my diamond tip hobby saw to break apart the sheets just for the clean lines. Alternately, you can do as biccat says and score the lines with a razor blade until you are able to snap it apart. And yes, with some careful planning you can make the most out of the 2 sheets per pack. As you are getting 2 packs you should have well more than enough for your listed needs.

Thanks for the info. Its really a shock that this is a GW product. And i should have extras for when i expand. Sounds like a good investment.

I, apparently, lack the ability to cut in straight lines. I'm not sure why.

The snap-apart feature really is brilliant.

I like them, too. Quite useful. You might get away cheaper by building your own but the convenience is worth the diffrence in money for me.

The only problem is, when you add the edging, they add about 2mm to each side, so if you like your stuff sitting snug in the movement tray, you need to cut about 4mm off two sides (say, the front and left side, for example).

However, this makes for some wiggle room when you have models that don't like to rank up perfectly.

Yup, its really handy, especially with Characters. Their poses always seem to conflict with RnF so that wiggle room is appreciated.

Except that the wiggle room typically makes it a lot easier to get models in and out, especially if some of them are pokey and don't line up perfectly.

I use them, they are cheap and good however I have my issues with them.

I like to magnetize my minis and add magnet sheeting and the little grooves make it so the sheeting does not get a tight seal and with the edges there maybe some debate on what is charge range, that said on my new Empire army I will be using just some plasticard.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

I've not had a problem magnetizing my Skaven. Then again, I put rubber steel sheeting ino the top of the tray and glue individual rare earth magnets to the underside of the model's base.

I use a band saw to cut mine. It is probably the best thing for fantasy that GW has ever come up with besides the magic cards.

Also useful in making bases and templates for terrain to sit on. Generally a good versatile product worth it's price- wich is not horrible. I pay 18$ canadian a pack for mine
