Okay, so I'm joining an ongoing campaign that my local group are running, and have set up a warband with a balance of fluff and combat skill. Initially I was going to give the Warplock Pistols to the Assassin for instance, but due to the fluff I had in mind for Mograt and Morish, I switched them over. Poor Morish only has a BS of 3, but hopefully that will improve with time. The dice kinda screwed me on his spell for that choice, but at least he can defend himself if he gets into fights.

Assassin Adept: Mograt Death-Mother
Equipment: Pair of Fighting Claws

Mograt was a young female who managed to claw and bite her way through childhood, hiding her gender and slinking in with the groups of Night-Runners who stalked the sewers of man. She quickly advanced through the ranks, through the tried and true Skaven method of backstabbing, lying, cheating and occasionally proving her worth in combat, too. It was on her initiation day as Assassin that her secret was revealed; one of her brothers had spotted her in the tunnels, and saw this as a prime opportunity to improve his standing in the guild. A bloody fight broke out, in which she slew her treacherous brother and a half-dozen of her brethren before the Nightmaster called a halt to the fighting; Clearly these rumours were false, as the concept of a wench killing an Assassin was as close to heresy as it got in Clan Eshin. The claimant was dead, and he would hear no more of the matter. Nonetheless, the rumours spread throughout the undercity, and she found it increasingly hard to find work. Taking a gamble, she took a handful of her underlings and struck off for the city of Mordheim, seeking fame and riches.

Eshin Sorceror: Morish the Ill-Tempered
Equipment: Brace of Warplock Pistols
Spells: Black Fury (I wanted a ranged character. The dice didn't. )
Morish was a short, foul-tempered skaven who spent most of his time buried in scrolls. He had little tact, his mind more adept in sums and sigils than underhandedness, and so found it hard to rise through the ranks. This left him bitter, and he took his frustration out on his hapless assistants, taking any and every opportunity to use them in his 'experiments'. Skaven eager to apprentice to a sorceror are always in plentiful supply, but even among them the rumours of his frequent cruelty soon spread, and only the most deranged and enthusiastic sought a place beneath him. Those with prying eyes (more short-lived even than usual) would sometimes sneak a look into the cellars, where among the squeaks and growls of his giant-rats, occasional pleas and half-heard cries seeped through the thick wooden door.

Black Skaven: Zigrat Tailbiter
Equipment: Sword, Sling

A brutish young Skaven, whose tastes in meat and friends often coalesce.

Black Skaven: Drek Sootpelt
Equipment: Sword, Sling

A runt of a Skaven, whose only hope of advancement lay in following the (female?) Assassin's suicide mission into the ruins of Mordheim.

Night Runner: Skeer of Longear
Equipment: Club, Sling

A member of a proud Warlock's family, he was chased out after being caught stealing from his father. Not for stealing, but for being caught.

Night Runner: Eeklit Gutter-Breath
Equipment: Club, Sling

A promising Night-Runner, whose attempts at melding with his cohorts and rising in the ranks are hampered by his poor hygeine, even by Skaven standards.

Henchmen:

Giant Rat: Ex-Apprentice Pelkit
Equipment: N/A

Shrunk on a whim by Morish.

Giant Rat: Ex-Apprentice Gelt
Equipment: N/A

Likes being a rat more anyway.

Verminkin: Vreek
Equipment: Club, Sling

Verminkin: Esker
Equipment: Club, Sling

Verminkin: Sileek
Equipment: Club, Sling

Verminkin: Idrik
Equipment: Club, Sling

The band so far:

Question; How much have I screwed myself over by giving the CC-spelled Sorceror the Pistols?

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Wow like the background you are doing.

But it seems funny that you have spent time writing that, yet the equipment has made them all clone troopers - so I think the weapons line-up could do with a little more imagination (can I ask are you playing in a very competitive campaign?)

I can understand your wrath regarding the spell choices. I also wanted a ranged spellcaster and gave my skaven warlock a warplock-pistol in addition to it's starting dagger. I also rolled Black Fury as his power.

Okay, participated in two games today.

The first one was Save the Prince, I allied with the other Skaven player (who then allied with the shooty Human player). I saved him, we split the gold, I got a sword and a helmet. Combination of bad rolling and a pretty piss-poor rewards table. Ah well. I lost a Giant Rat (one of Morish's experiments) promptly rebought it.

The other game, said Skaven player took out most of my henchmen with superior slinging/unit placement, and I voluntarily routed. Got a fairly nice profit from the two games in total. Children of the Horned Rat for my Sorceror, extra attacks for my remaining henchmen, extra leadership for my Assassin and one Black Skaven, Tailfighting for the other. A handful of Lucky Charms.. A few other odds and sods, iirc.

Anywho, going well, despite mostly not-doing-much-actual-fighting. Will put up some pictures of my models sometime soon. Trying to keep the number of monkeyrats to a minimum.

Your warband sounds pretty good for the start, and I have to say that I really like the adddition of some depth to your heroes. Have you ever tried to play a campaign with some elements of continuity/roleplay? I think it could be much more fun for you, if you like to characterize the members of the warband.

Also I wonder if you're using the rules revision which corrects the Sling rules, since I remember they were pretty common in Skaven warbands before the revision came out. And pretty overpowered.

By the way, I don't think you screwed much with your sorceror. it could have been better, but let's just say by now that he has "advanced defensive capabilities". With such a spell it looks pretty nasty to be faced in Close combat. Anyhow, the second spell is a much more welcome one.

Good luck!

Yeah, we're using the revised rules. Slings still end up rocking for the price.
