This morning we was bored at the university, so we ended up writing a new list for a friend who's playing Tau, usually without outstanding results. Hope some criticize will help!

So, here's the list.

Four units of funny WS4 suits with TL-Missile Pod (Assault2 S7Ap4). They are mobile, they hit with consistency, and have 2 wounds each.

Two units of not-so-funny XV88, a little mobile thanks to Slow and Pourposeful, and well shielded with drones.

Two units of kroot and one of FW just to see if we can snatch some points toward the end of the game.

The idea is to keep the XV8s at range, while playing peekaboo with consistent missiles to pop transports and hammer some infantry. The broadside should take care of some veichles, and then we can lose our game with the dignity of an old and a little underpowered codex. Or, maybe, win!

Criticism is welcome, as usual

I'm a fan of Deathrain (TL MP), a little less so of Deathrain+ (TL MP + TA), but definitely not an army running them exclusively. That being said, at 1500 points that's certainly a LOT of crisis suits! You certainly have enough firepower to de-mech an army quickly, but I'm not sure if it's enough to deal with the troops that stumble out of the wrecks.

What role do you see your Kroot filling? Kroot shield? Objective holders? Either way, I'm not sure you really need two separate min units. They are easy to kill and don't really do anything other than sit on an objective, if it's in woods. If you need a movement blocker, try replacing one unit with a Piranha. Or perhaps combining both squads into one unit.

I think it's an interesting list, but it's going to be a rough game of keep-away until you can whittle down any advancing infantry. You'll really need the Broadsides firepower to help take down infantry, so things would get hairy if you lose them (or they get tied in CC) early in the game.

I'd switch out one of the broadsides for a railhead. you have enough anti armor with the suits, and the large blast would help out a lot more after the transports are down than one extra railgun shot

I'm surprised how much this looks like the backbone of some shooty tyranid lists I was throwing around for a friend. Really reminds me of having a lot of hive guard and tyranofex the mobility and reliability are the trade for the momma bugs.

How's it been doing?

This is probably a good idea. 1 Hammerhead and 2 2x Broadside Units would be about the same number of points.

Yep, losing 1 total railgun hit (TL!), but getting some flexibility, altough I've always been of the idea that the XV88s are all round better than the RailHead...

I'd agree when judging each unit against eachother, but I see this list being burried by any horde army, there just aren't enough shots on the board to deal with a mass of infantry.

Yes, tau cannot face everything...going against "hordes" would lead to what...Firestorms?

Ok, so, we would need a MultiTrack, a Burst Cannon (range 18), to shoot a MissilePod (no TL!) and a Burst Cannon...so 2 BS3 (S7AP4) and 3 BS3 (S5AP5)...would it be THAT better? an average of 1 hit from pod and 1,5 from burst cannon...with "actual" missiles, we get still around 2 hits, with better S and lesser AP PER SHOT.

I'm not telling that this excels to handle hordes, but I'd say that getting Burst Cannons and Multitrackers would, at the end, reduce our impact drastically on mechanized, and not getting that better against hordes.

Yes, maybe we could get 3 RailHead, so we end having a better horde control...what do you think, Dakka?

You are kind of overstating the TL missile pod, with a TA they only give 1.76ish shot (not 2), vs the 2.5 shots of the firestorm. Personally I'm planning to use 2 devilfish with 6 fw's and 1 set of kroot at 1500, as others have stated your troops might be a little vulnerable in objective games.

Also, you are not allowed to post the point costs of the individual upgrades so I'd suggest you edit it out before a mod nukes your thread .

As said, missiles are "around" 2 (e times more "2" than "1"!)...but always at 36". With firestorm, you have a 1 at 36, and 2.5 at 18". Kinda "rebalance" the odds (first turns you will only shoot missiles^^)
