Before I even begin commenting on the models, I have to talk about the picture quality.
I cant make a true C&C unless you take better pics. Using a flash washes out all detail and changes the color of the models.
Look at the difference flash makes on these two models.

The next problem with the picture is the background. Use a solid background or at the very least, move everything out of the way.
I would also suggest taking the pic with a dark/black background instead of the white. When using the camera in the auto setting, like most of us do, the camera see all the white (paper) background as 'light', so it closes the iris/aperture.
The result is that your model comes out darker that it actually is because the aperture is now closed to compensate for all the 'light'

Assault Squad:
First thing that I notice is the helmet. They have no eyes/lenses. They look unfinished without the eyes. You can get away with this on heads, but not on helmets.
Also, you need to add some metallics to the helmet, specifically the mouth pieces/respirators on the face plate.
The torsos have too much metal in them, you need to break up a little. It seems 4 of the Marines still need their eagle painted gold.
I would also paint the jump pack straps black, just to break up all the metal.
You can also either drill out the barrels or simply paint a black dot on them.
Did you wash the metal? It's hard to tell with the flash.

Vindicator:
You can still see the brush strokes, or rather you can see the black primer under the brush strokes.
You're having the same color issues that you have with the troops. It's very monochromatic. Give it some more color.
Paint the head lights, the sensor/targeting array (on top), paint the barrel red or some other color.
Maybe some weathering on the vehicle. Just a very light stippling or drybrushing of brown along the bottom to give it a dirt/dust effect.
Wash. Brown or black.

1+ to HONAW and to Lav, I like the scheme, and if you want to do metallics like that easier, why not just buy a metallic primer?

Well, I feel we're all here for the same thing. To get better through C&C. I hate it when someone post a badly painted army and people just say, "that is awesome" or some other BS.
You can C&C on someone's models without being a douche and still help the person get better.

I love color primers. I think they can save a ton of time that most people don't have to spend painting an army. Most people I've met hate painting, so this is an awesome thing.
GW, used to make color primer, but I guess they decided they could make more money by not selling them and selling you paint instead.
Make sure you buy an acrylic spray paint. Also make sure you spray several light coats of paint. It should take you about 3 or 4 passes to cover one model. If you spray too long/hard, it may dry on thick and cover up detail.
I would test it out on a back pack, or if you live close to GW, snatch up one of those free SM they have.

I like your color scheme. Gunmetal and purple is a risky combination, but I think if you get a little better at applying the paint (earlier comments about lighter brushwork need not be repeated) then this paint scheme is going to rock.

Brother-Sergeant Eli definitely has more color and depth, but he looks a little messy.
It looks like you water your paint, cause you can't see the thick clumps of paint or the brush strokes.
You have two main issues that you need to work on.
First is coverage. You need to paint several layers of paint to get smooth, even coverage. I can still see a lot of the black primer underneath.
Second is neatness. You have to go back and clean up. This is probably your biggest downfall. The purity seal on the tabbard, the skull on the pack, the gold on his chest, the purple on the eagle on power fist, purple and metal on the gun and the belt buckle decoration.
You can get away with the first, because it can work in your favor if you're going for a dirty gritty look. But the second problem has to be corrected. Just go back and touch up when you're done, or simply take your time. With practice comes speed.

Oh, and this is just a suggestion, but I would make the base a lighter brown. The models are kinda dark now, so a brighter base will make them stand out more. Also, the bright green grass doesn't fit with the dark brown/red base.

Just as an observation....

Firstly your models are nice i like the uses of contrast go well and so on, i like it your should be proud my friend...

Secondly.... lav25gunner may point out a few good tips on backgrounds and such but looking at his picture quality in his reference isn't one to worthy of the condescending tone in his comments and Photoshopping an image just seems like cheating your own skills... if you make a nice set and take a nice photo with a half decent camera its worth a sack of cheated works..

and granted i haven't looked at lav25gunner's work but again sounds very unhelpful and condescending on the posts...
i just want to see pleasant comments and friendly advise but if i'm reading it in the wrong tone i will apologize if told so...

i will point out at this stage that i am an ex Photography student and an animation student... i know cameras... and im dating a professional photographer... so i know how to capture my miniatures without the help of a programs touch ups...

I got a not so good camera (imho its sucks monkey nutz). I still need to tough up some areas of the models and do some highlighting but so they look good enough for table quality. Thx for the C&C.

From what I can see you have done a very clean paintjob on the storm talon gunship only thing I can really say is give the silver on the models a better wash and highlight, keep up the good work otherwise

Looking at that last vehicle, I think your color combo is frickin' dynamite! Seriously, it rocks on toast...

Now I'm wondering if any flaws in the paintjobs of the minis farther up the page were due to the closeness of the photos (and possible glare from a flash) rather than actual errors in your technique. On the realz, if all of your figs have a paint job consistent with that flyer, then you have one hell of an army, and probably one of the nicest looking custom color schemes I've seen.

Thanks, I do love my paint scheme(wife chose the colors). Total time from build to paint 6+ hours. The shot was taken outside and turned great.

Although now that I think of it, I kind of expect the Marines bailing out of that flyer to be screaming "Cobraaaaaa!"

I think you left the awesome dial in your brain set to over 9000.

Why is it that people on the internet always see the world with 50% more awesome than I do?

And for an actual constructive comment, I enjoyed your colour scheme. The painting quality has gotten progressively better through the thread. Your stormtalon in particular is pretty awesome.

We are winged salvation, but we are a terrible, final salvation, and our wings embrace the horizon with fire. We are the Blood Angels.
