So i was reading this.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/26/AR2009042602711.html
In short it says that Fat, Sugar and Salt in food can cause your appetite to stretch, so you gorge yourself when you eat.
That massive amounts of all 3 will change your brain chemistry.
So i ask all of you.
With this iinformation, In the interest of public health, Should we put mandatory limits on the amount of those 3 substances to prevent this sort of stuff?

As a smoker I say yes. I have been off sugar (Besides that in fruit n such) for a year now and it has drastically improved my health.

The smoker part of me says yes because it is a addictive destructive substance just like tobacco and should be regulated. Same goes for salt and fats

Johnny Crass: Sugar is a necessary part of our biology, in fact, without sugar you would likely simply die off almost immediently.

Carboydrates, for example, are complex sugars-- your body breaks down carbohydrates to make sugars which are then used for energy. To get rid of sugar, you'd have to get rid of carbohydrates. Your body also converts stored fat in to sugars whenever you exercise enough, so to get rid of sugar, you'd have to get rid of fats. Your body also converts proteins in to simple sugars too, in times of emergency (the body's las resort in terms of food). To get rid of sugar, you'd have to get rid of proteins.

Basically, our entire body system is based off of sugar. ALL forms of energy for the human body are sugar-based. Just saying this to make sure you realize you haven't "been off sugar", and that sugar is nowhere NEAR equivalent to smokiing. .Sure, you'll want to die if you stop having any of the byproducts of smoking in your body (because of your addiction). But you WILL die if you stop having any form of sugar in your body (because you have no energy to live, literally). (2R,3S,4R,5R)-2,3,4,5,6-Pentahydroxyhexanal (IE, D-glucose, or dextrose) is just that important.

Sorry. Felt the need to correct waht seemed like a misconception... especially since I suffer from hypoglacemia, that is, a deficiency of sugar. It basically makes me have to eat fruit snacks or other sources of sugar occasionally so that I get enough to ensure that I can think properly (not enough sugar limits one's self control, and makes it hard to do any serious form of decision making).

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

The public health interest certainly would favor mandatory regulation of sugar, fats, and salt.

In fact, the public health interest would favor requiring you to visit a dietitian on a regular basis for training and health analysis and either an observer in your home to measure salt, fat, and sugar intake or strict ration controls on availability, preferably both to preclude black-market trading.

It does depress me when people count calories but disregard salt, sugar and fat content.

Melissa I agree that sugar is nessascary part of our diet (I get mine through fruits and such). But I am saying is it should be regulated just like any other addictive substance. We need it but we do not need to consume it in such vast quantity's.

or the government can go use that money to go solve world hunger or something and stay out of my life.

Why would we want to increase the public health? Go Green, let people get fat and die.

The government has no business telling people how long to live. Let people live healthy if they want and not if they don't.

You can easily survive on under 50 grams of carbs a day for extended periods of time. Most bodybuilders cut out all carbs for extended periods and suffer no side effects.

You can easily get sufficient carbs eating just fruits, the myth that you need grains to survive is just that, a myth.

Tax on tobacco is just easy money, it has nothing to do with encouraging you to be healthy. It's an elective tax, like the lottery.

Alcohol age limits are in place because it affects your brain during its development. Plus kids aren't able to make decisions that long-term for themselves.

Yes, we should legalize pot. There'd be less competition for jobs!
