'Allo there!
Yeah, so, this is my attempt at logging the progress of my Word Bearers force as it (hopefully) grows into the super huge apocalypse army that I've always wanted to have.
I suppose some background information is in order. I started wargaming when I was about 13, so I didn't really have much in the way of discipline when it came to armies. At one point, I probably had around 6 1,000 point maximum armies. Fast forward about 5 or so years later, and I've got about 2 2,500 Fantasy armies, and a plethora of my old 40k models, most of which are beyond repair. My gaming group really only consists of 3.5 members, one of which only counts as half because he doesn't quite play as often as the rest of us would like. Either way, this is my first attempt at a serious 40k army. I've had a strange fascination with religious warriors, and after reading Soul Hunter, Blood Reaper, Storm of Iron and the Word Bearers Omnibus, I settled on Word Bearers.
Anyway, I'm not the best painter, so please, any tips would be appreciated. Though, I must note that I've quite shaky hands, so stuff like edge highlights, blending and the like are all quite difficult for me. Any tips on doing those would be awesome too.
So, enough yammering. 'ere's the pics. I apologize about the quality, I've really only got my phone to work with here.
The whole force, collected and painted in the span of about 2 weeks.
My First Acolyte. For gaming purposes, a Chaos Sorcerer with the Lash of Slaanesh. He's been on here before, but I stripped him, re-painted him in Emperor's Children colors, then re-stripped and re-did as a Word Bearer, again.
Lash of Slaanesh? Isn't this a Word Bearers army? Indeed it is. I explain it in the background as some sort of silly chaotic aura.
My Chaos Dreadnought. The first of two, and hopefully more. Yes, the tabards aren't the best sculpts. If anyone has any advice on doing them, I'd be happy to lend an ear. He's still WiP, gotta throw on a coat of Mechrite Red and then pick out all the details
My Terminators. In the background, Word Bearers Terminators are sometimes known as the Anointed, so... yay!
They're also still WiP, I keep forgetting to do the tabards on all of them, not to mention all the metal bits and whatnot
Look! Close-ups! For ease, convenience, and mostly speed, my armor recipe involves a heavy wash of Badab black. Looks like this guy got a bit much. Still, one of my favorites though.
Finally, the Chaos Marine squad. I run them 15 strong, for reasons I can't really explain. I'm putting WoC helmets on all of my stuff, so unfortunately my army gets expensive quickly
And close ups of the almost finished ones. These 5 are all converted from regular space marine bits. After reading Soul Hunter, I enjoy the concept of Chaos Marines scavenging armor, so that's how I explain it =p
So, that's it for now. I'm looking at getting my grubby hands on a Chaos Marine Battalion and a Daemon Prince (hopefully) by the weekend. Thanks 'fer lookin!

Yay! Another Word Bearers army floating about! I just recently started my own Word Bearers army about 4 months ago now. Feel free to check out my blog if you're interested.
So far, looking good. The painting is obivously WiP, so there's not a heap to be said about it, but it looks like it's coming along well.
I really dig the Chaos Warrior helmets, I also did the same with mine, although not quite on every single model, I get what you mean by expensive!
The tabards are also really cool, and very characteristic of the Bearers.
Looking forward to seeing more!

Indeed, I've seen your stuff and it's utterly fantastic!
Yeah, I've loaned quite a few important paints to my friend, so I'm a tad stuck until I retrieve those from him.
The Chaos Warrior helmets are cool though, so I suppose they're worth it.

So, I got my grubby hands on a Battalion and a Daemon Prince, so I went to work and came out with this.
So here's the whole army now. I've almost finished about 5 other marines from the first squad, though I ran out of both Scab Red AND Mechrite Red =/ So I'll be picking that up ASAP, along with some new primer so I can get this army going.
The Daemon Prince came primed, luckily, and as you can see I'm working on the early fleshy bits. Never realized how much I loved this kit, especially compared to the new one. I'll be running this bad boy as a Summoned Greater Daemon however, so no cool marks and the like there.
'Nother squad. Also armed with Plasma Gun and Rocket Launcher. I still need to Greenstuff like, 30+ robes, so I'll most likely spend the better part of my weekend doing that =/
Grr, scary Chaos Rhino! I've yet to post pics of the 'Zerkers that came in the kit, mainly because I'm not done with them! About 3 or so are missing heads, and I need to order more Chaos Warrior helmets before I can finish working on them =p
And Possessed. I used a couple of the Possessed legs on the 'zerkers, so these are really the only 2 I'll ever finish. A shame the unit isn't that great, these guys would be fantastic in my Word Bearer army.
Finally, my pride and joy, my Dark Apostle. After assembling all the contents in the battalion, I started fiddling around my bits box, and found a Finecast Chaos Lord helmet and a Chaos Knight spiky mace bit. After a bit of converting and a full 15 minutes freaking out about what I should use to decorate the base, I finished him and was utterly surprised. I really enjoy his pose, I'm trying to stress the religious aspect of the Word Bearers, and nothing screams "Worship the Ruinous Powers" like outstretched arms. He was wearing a chainmail bit, which I'm going to replace with a robe, once I greenstuff it on, hence the apparent gap in his lower abdomen.
And look! Skulls! I got these from the Khorne Icon that comes in the Bloodcrusher box, which my friend bought. Threw on a Space Marine helmet for kicks

Just finished reading Battle for the Abyss, and this is one of the first things to show up when I logon. They did pique my interest, so I'll be watching your progress That apostle looks very good indeed, kinda like "Come here and I'll teach you to respect the Word!"

Finally! An update! Sorry all, I've been super lazy, and busy, so... yay!
Onto the work then!
The whole army, right as they were about to get whisked away to a game (which got canceled =/)
The prince has some preliminary work done on him. The trim has been rather sloppily done (It was 3:00 AM!) so I'm definitely looking to fix that.
What a pretty Rhino! I juts noticed an ugly bit of plastic on the bayonet part there... le sigh...
And look! Second Squad! I've named all my squad leaders, so... if anyone's interested =D
I'm looking into picking up a Land Raider and another squad of 'Zerkers, (and yet ANOTHER order of Chaos Warrior Helmets =p) And from there we'll see what happens.
