Back in 1999 they were the first army I collected. I then moved on and got in and out of 40k over the years. I love Sanguinius he is by far my favorite character of the fluff. Everyone seems to strain the tactic with BA of all assault with razorbacks. To me that seems very, very boring. I would like a more mixed SM army. I just don't want to be going down the wrong path with these BA if the tactic I'd rather use is useless. Which it seems to be. I mean TM with red thirst? Devs with red thirst? Seems wasted... *sigh*

I currently have these models unpainted. (For the purpose of you seeing that I have generic SM units to put towards a chapter that might be better for my style of tactics.)

Drop Pod
2x Rhino/Razor
10x Assault Marine
10x TM
5x Dev
1x Chaplin
1x Pred w/ AC (painted as BA 3rd company)

I'm interested in the UM, BT as well (if me playing BA would be a waste of their rules.) Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Paint your marines any color you want to paint them.

Also play any SM army you like.

the color of your models do not determine what codex you should use.

Some SM's are yellow, some are blue, some are silver, some are red, some are green, some are black, etc.

Just pick whatever codex you have the most fun with.

I agree I'm just highly indecisive and don't want to play BA if me not using mass AM and RB would put me at a sever disadvantage. Although since I learned you can use SP characters now that I might us Astroth and mass DCs.

While im still very new to Blood Angels I'd say there are plenty more ways to play BA than spamming Razorback. For example DoA is pretty competitive from what I can tell, and there's plenty of "fun" lists as all SG army, massed Dreadnaught and of course DC army.

If you like the BA fluff etc I'd say go for it!

You're very convincing. I will do that. You can't beat the vibrant bold red of a BA army. How can't you love the angel wings on the new models? Also Emperors Champions stats are lacking and that is sad =/ (probably not a good idea to pick an army based on one model.) BA it is!

You want to play a mixed list that includes something along a "fluffy list" right? In other words you want to run Tacticals, DC, and Assault Marines? It can work, but those aren't the best builds for Blood Angels and I feel like no matter what army you play you are going to play sub optimal lists anyways. Is that an issue? No, but don't expect to win tournaments if you plan to attend them.

Have fun with it. If you like the fluff for BA play them.

Yeah I'm a huge introvert so I doubt I'll ever go to a tournament. I did once when I was younger with Eldar. I got destroyed in the first round. I didn't mind losing I'm just a shut in.

I play a Jump Pack-focused BA army (Assault Marines, Honour Guard, Dante, Jump Pack DC). It's not an army that'll win tourneys by any means but it's fun. As far as I see it, if you have fun playing it, go for whatever you want.

I'd love to see a DC army fielded; only drawback is the points (for me to run 10 with 3-4 special weapons and jump packs is over 400 points!)

BA Razorback spam is just the main tactic people are using; I just find it dull and not particularly fluffy either (BA Assault Marines forgoing their jump packs?) so it's not for me.

Then I see no reason for you not to play blood Angels. Massed ASM is effective and so is Razorspam, but those lists have weaknesses. Play what you like. Use stormravens if you want. Just enjoy the hobby!

I agree it seems so dull. I will attempt to preemptively build my force before getting models. I figure one TM, a "large' DC. (I really wish they would re-mold Mephiston to make him look up to date!) Definitely Storm Raven I LOVE that piece looks so awesome. I really like the flying aspects they've added. probably LS. a few ASM. We shall see. I also have only used a Librarian once many years ago. I've always like the Chaplins as my HQ. Why do people use Librarians so much?

I am getting into Blood Angels. I just have to get the codex! I am going for 2 tac squads 1 ten man assualt squad and the usual sm forces! Not that its competitive...... I just find it fun to have a lot of different units! I just need to get a death company!
I go for a more toned down red though. Vibrant red could get annoying after awhile.

The BA codex was released as a money spinner, there really wasn't a "niche" for them to fill hence razorspam dullness.

I would say that if you really like Blood Angels go ahead and play them.

I have a hard time believing that any of the armies in 40K have "This is the only way to win with this army" strategies. that's all BS made up by the hype of the tournament scene and the latest fad. Hell certain builds only do well in tournaments because 90% of what you see in tournaments are "certain builds". It's like a fishbowl for tactics, where nearly every player of each specific race is only going to risk the sure-win tactics, and they come home to think that's how normal games should be.

Space marines are a well-rounded force to play, and Blood Angels add better close combat capabilities into the mix. Go with what's fun for you, with all the races, armies, and squads within those armies.

I run a mixed style BA list.

sanquinor
Mephiston
Furioso dread
assault marines in rhinos
devistators x2
baal preds x2
bikers x1

Its a lot of fun and not expected at all. FNP fearless keep the devistators firing. FC makes the bikers/assault marines hit like the hammers they should be. And everything goes zoom zoom zoom around the table.

Grimm you make such a good point. I was really disappointed the way that people field their armies. Where each army had only so few play styles. It's a shame it gets so competitive that they lose sight of what they could be.

Xneos on the other hand I really value the Tau out look and their technology. I'm not big on the Orks, bugs, or DE. I hate Chaos and their Daemons. The Eldar are very attractive as well.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Y......e.......s.

Sparkly red twinklewing vampire space marines with blood-blood-bloody everything.

And fabio for a psyker.

What's not to mock and denigrate?

Still, could be worse. Could be a drunken space viking werewolf marine player.

Hey, I resemble that!

Well, except for my army of drunken viking marines come roaring out of the Eye of Terror from 10,000 years ago, chasing Chaos traitors and tearing off their armor to replace theirs, and their Long Fangs don't use missle-spam or have Wolf Guard on Thunderwolves, and my Wolf Lord just rides a bike.....

Hmm.....as things are judged now, maybe I'm not a Space Wolf player anymore........

To answer your question about the Librarian its essentially because he's a better chaplain. The chaplain allows you to re-roll to hit if you are charging. Librarian allows the squad he is with to re-roll to hit whenever regardless of charging. That's impressive as it is. To add to that you can give him a power that gives you an automatic 5+ cover save is great! There are lots of other good powers, but those are the best 2 in my opinion.

I never liked Devastators. Waste of a heavy support slot. I use my BA as a drop pod heavy force. I use Furiosos in drop pods. Super nasty. Make it nastier, Chaplain with 9 Death Company in a drop pod... O ya, super sexy fun time. Why would you put an assault unit in a transport that has to drive from one side of the table to the other? Good chance that they might get blown up. Just get in their face without the risk of getting stuck in the middle of the field.

Out flanking Baals are always fun to do. Took out a few Leman Russes doing that.

I see you have made a thread for pretty much every army out there, so I just wanna say pick the army you like the look and fluff of the most, or their playstyle. Do not pick them because they are the flavor of the week or have this uber cool rule (though I must admin DoA makes me drool) cause those are likely to change and be countered by the next new codex. GW makes codex rock, their next codex will be paper and after that they release scissor and it goes on and on.

And I agree with you a 100% on razorback spam, I have no problem with them per se, but the fact that assault marines give up their jetpack to take a ride just dont do it for me, therefore I have glued on all my jetpacks instead of using magnets.
