Me & some chap were having a debate (argument) about Vulkan, he said that the skin colour of Vulkan was that of what Salamanders are now, charcoalish? I said that he was white and a mutated gene seed is the reason Salamander has their colour. Am I right or have I been imagining all the time?

Its his geneseed mixed with the radiation of nocturne. It may be that his sckin was a bit less dark but still dark.

Considering he spent much of his time on vulcan as a he matured I think he would be exposed to the same amount of radiation so it would be dark.

I thought Vulkan was missing and the "Vulkan" you get to play with in the vanilla codex was simply a leader who assumes the name of Vulkan to lead the slamanders? If that is the case then he would be dark like his brothers since he is in fact not the true Vulkan.

Black stands to reason, although I cannot give you an official source. Officially, it is the Space Marine genetic enhancements which combine with the radiation of Nocturne to create the black skin and red eyes. Now, as a child growing up on Nocturne, I would assume that Vulkan would have sponged up enough radioactive go-juice to get his Shaft on just like everyone since then. But, as I said, I don't have anything in front of me to quote on that.

Even if Vulkan was white when his capsule crashed, he would still be living on Nocturne so his body would have adapted and his skin colour darkened.

Are all Nocturneans that way? I kind of thought it was a Space Marine specific thing. (I realize that isn't what you were saying, Bluntman, I'm just asking as a side note...)

The normal populace are white I'm pretty sure. I just finished reading the Salamander books and although I can't give you a quote, I'm pretty sure I remember them being described as white.

All of the humans on Nocturne have jet black skin due to the weird planetary conditions. Also, skin mutation does happen (tanning) but i would think the jet black skin & red eyes hadn't happened overnight. It would have happened over successive generations. Since Vulcan (the original) had a pure gene-seed, (uncorrupted as-of-yet) his skin may have darkened over a couple dozen years but not to the same condition of other people on the planet.

The populous of the planet have dark skin from the radiation yes, and the only white people there would be the cave dwellers.

Da'kir in the Salamander books was originally white skinned, but because he grew up in the caves, not like most of the other Salamanders.

Also, the jet back skin and red eyes is from the geneseed changing things, the normal people of Nocturne don't have that.

And with the white skin it's not like caucasian white? I think? More like albino white? I need to reread that...

I'm honestly not sure on whether it might be Albino white compared to Caucasian, I haven't really seen it covered any in the books. I'm not sure how the radiation of the planet would effect them when underground either.

Cuz when I think caves and underground civilizations, I think either really pale people or blind, cuz there really isn't much light. But then again you're on Nocturne, and you probably have vast rivers of glowy-flowy lava. So light...

Also in the Salamander series, it says something about their skin, pointing out that the process of the transformation into a marine turned their skin onyx and eyes red as a by product of the genetic deviations of the gene seed...

So from what little I can get from that, I'm thinking that the surface natives most likely had darker skin but not the onyx and red eyes the marines exhibit...

You're correct on the normal people there and the changes being turned into a space marine make with the onyx skin and red eyes.

As for the underground lava thing, i suppose it would matter if they could set up a settlement close enough to it for light but not too close as for things to burn up or just get washed away in it when things go bad planet wise.
