Tough-as-Nails Ork Boy






Hi folks.
Still pretty new to playing - soaking up all the wisdom from here I can. I've got a bunch of orks now that made sense to me, I was wondering what basic 1000pt list you'd put together with what I've already got - & what would you suggest I add to make it to 1500pts. I'm mainly playing IG & SM armies.

I've got:

2 x Warbosses (built w/ PKs)
1 x Big Mek (w/ SAG)

70 x Boyz (inc. 6 Big Shootas)
20 x Nobz (3 built w/ PKs)

1 x Trukk
3 x Deffkoptas

4 x Lootas + 1 Mek
5 x Stormboyz (prolly getting rid of these)

With what you got I would play green tide get yourself 2 big meks w/ kff's to protect you boys as they foot slog accross the field. You cna run you boys in either 3 20 man squads or 2 30 man squads its up to you. Keep the lootas the mek you dont need but im assuming thats all you got, but get some more lootas they are a great fire support unit. Keep the deffkoptas as well and split them into 3 single man units kitting them out with twin rokits and buzz saws making them your tank killers. If your going first scout move 12 inches normal move shoot a tank likely hitting side armor then possibly assault. If your going secong keep them in reserve and deep strike them at the rear armor of there tank. I run them like this and it works pretty well.

How many of what boys do you have with shoota's or choppa's? that probably will dictate squad sizes. Stormboys can be a big annoyance unit, but only in big mobs and if they include a Nob with PK, otherwise they are just expensive boys that can move a bit quicker (saying that, having an opponent not know about the 12+d6 movement is nice, especially when he thinks his devastators are out of range and you roll that glorious 6).

The loota box has always annoyed me, why have 4 + a mek, sure give the mek body and other bits but having the option to make a 5th loota for fracks sake GW.

A KFF mek or two is a MUST buy, its just about the best points you can spend in just about any codex (apart from the Emperors champion with accept any challenge, damn Templars).

Comes to about 1490pts. I'm noticing the distinct lack of lootas -- & I miss my awesome best friend the Big Mek with SAG.

Do I run the three squads of 20, or two of 30?

Any other thoughts?

Hey man,

Few quick points.....

12 man boyz mob is a bit vulnerable, i wouldn't bother with it.

Truck by itself, specially with Nobz in it is a target and very easily destroyed... with trucks take lots or none.

Take advantage of would allocation stuff with the Nobz, make 'em all different....... also 2 or three pks are awesome in 8 man groups...... also painboyz are amazing for points cost (cyborg and fnp ftw)

Lootas are amazing, (min or max at:two 5 man or one 15 man squad)

I've always found buzzsaws to have alot more affect than the rokkits on the koptas (damn bs of 2) (btw you can flat out on scout move)

I always run with 3 20 man squads not 2 30 man squads..... because of moving round terrain, more scoring units, take on 3 targets instead of two etc.

I agree trade the shoota boyz out for the lootas even if just the 4 and mek I think might be better than the shoota boyz.

For the record if anyone else is questioning why he has a mek with his squad of 4 lootas is because in a GW box of lootas comes 5 bodies, 4 deffgun kits and various mek upgrade options... In a box of 5 lootas you only get 4.

Then I'd leave the trukk out altogether, get more. With the remaining points from the trukk and shoota turn loota conversion diversify your nobs, that is, give them each a diffrent load out so that when allocating wounds you can decide who's getting what and you don't have to kill off whole units, giving 2 or 3 diversified nobs wavy armour is jut about as beneficial as giving it to the whole squad
