In an army that struggles to get models to the table in a standard 1500 games is it worth shelling out for these guys?

Taking Paladins at 1500 points, in Draigowing or otherwise, is indeed pretty limiting. Still, they perform admirably as a hammer unit (and can out-perform a large number of other hammer units, while maintaining a lot of ranged firepower).
It's really up to you how you want to play. I've made them work against certain army types, but it's an uphill battle if you use up all your points on Paladins and then face a hard, fast, meched-up armada.
Not necessarily a bad thing for GK though

Totally worth it. My 1500pnt gk list has draigo, 10 paladins, coteaz, a calladus assassin, a dreadknight, and a handful of inquisitorial warrior henchmen. It's a garbage list for 1v1 games, but in any team game, common amongst my group of friends, it's a wrecking ball.

With Chaos, Tzeench would probably turn your hands, feet and face into
scrotums, complete with appropriate nerve endings. Then Khorne would
force you and all your friends to fight to the death using your new
scrotal appendages. Once they get tired of that, you get tossed to
Slaanesh who <censored by order of the Inquisition>, until you finally
end up in Nurgle's clutches and he uses you as a loofah. |

One smallish unit of them can be a terrifying deathstar. There's this amazing sticker shock on them though, and when you say "2 wound Terminators" a lot of players crap themselves. As long as you stay sane with them, as you would with any deathstar unit, they can be good.

I love my paladins. Then again I do play 30 of them with Draigo and librarian in apocalypse. Though even in apocalypse they do a lot of work. People have come to fear the my paladins coming in on their side of the board VIA flank march strategy.

Obliterators are two wound terminators that have every heavy weapon in the book. They've been around a while and don't seem to create a lot of crappy pants when ever they are fielded.

Oblits don't wield force weapons, not to mention they don't always strike last, have grenades, access to FnP or 4+ invulnerables in close combat (with option for a 2+), are a complex unit so you can play wound shenanigans, etc....

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

oblits also are 1-3 with really only a powerfist to keep them warm. They are far more limiting than the cheaper (by far) paladin

Why compare the 2? They serve completely different roles, fill different foc slots, etc. While paladins can have dreads etc. Purely ranged outside of 24 Oblits win. Within 24 and cc pallys crush oblits.

Ive never played with/against oblits but on paper palladins seem to be more flexible for a cheaper price.
However they do serve differnet roles so comparing them is a bit odd.
The main reason for this thread was is it worth it to get paladins over regular terminators.

Except they are not. Oblits are not in terminator armor, at least, its not listed among their wargear. (They actually do not have any armor listed in their wargear, yet have a 2+ on the statline). So they can ride in a rhino, at least it looks like they can, unless I missed something. (I don't play CSM so I might have missed something).

They're a unit you build the entire army around, not something that you can include in just any list and use effectively. When you build a list around them, either as a Draigowing or not, they can very definitely be worth it with proper support. But just taken as basically beefier terminators in a normal list? probably not.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

a play on the phrase "Deathwing". Take Draigo as your HQ and Paladin's as troops and basically your army consists of a bunch of super terminator.
