So they're resin, but they say you can paint right on the mini, like you don't need to prime? what about washing off the mold release stuffs? Sounds like a great idea though, for lazy types like me.

To be fair, you can paint any resin models "right on the mini without needing to prime".
It might not hold the paint well, but you can certainly do it!
Twenty years ago, you could go into a gaming store with a couple of bills and come out with a handful of minis. Not so much today. But today's quality is far superior to those figures of the past. Reaper's Bones meet that sweet spot where low price intersects with incredible detail. All the fiddly bits you love to paint are there at prices that will astound you.
Ready to Paint
Out of the box, these incredible figures take paint without priming. Our Master Series Paints cover these models perfectly right out of the bottle, and the paint sticks -- standing up to most sorts of tabletop abuse your friday night group would be able to dish out.
Perfect for Hobbyists and Gamers
Need to reposition an arm? You have your eye on one of the shields in our conversion packs? Grab some snips and modeling glue and go nuts. Bones' polymer material reacts beautifully with cyanoacrylate adhesives. Conversions and weapon swaps take about as long as your glue takes to dry.

At $2-3 apiece, those large figs are a pretty awesome deal. They definitely hit the "impulse buy" price range I've been looking for. The smaller ones... not so much.
Dare I suggest that Reaper decided to some test castings on figs that as has been said are bland enough, and low cost enough as to not be hurt if they do not sell? I think they are actually testing several things in one package as it were.
1) To see how well the resin will actually come out.
2)To see how well they would be received as these are now resin, but can be as they say converted.
3) checking out that pricing reduction now that they would no longer have to spend so much to ship a lighter series of models, thus passing savings on down to the customers.
GW did a rush on 1, and didn't do 2 or 3

Why do even the Reaper threads turn into GW bitchfests?
I agree with the first part of your post though, this is probably a test run to see how the market reacts and how the financials work out.

You really don't like neither the quality nor the sculpts and not even the price? Wow... Somehow I doubt it, but what the hell, I just ordered a bucketload of them and will do so again when more come out. I mean their sculpts are (at least for me) the best on the planet and all that for around 2 dollars a mini? It's like Christmas in March! I sure hope this is going to be a successfull experiment for them!
Some of the orc/kobold multi-pack sculpts are a little lacking - but they're also pretty old, and converted from the Reaper line of prepainted figs. (Supposedly as a cheap way to test the waters for "ambitious expansion.")
So yes, none of them are among Reaper's best sculpts. Though they are far from bad too.
For $2-3 a mini, I'm eyeballing the werewolf and maybe the worm just to try em out.
If they start converting the Warlord line for comparable prices I could see myself picking up a whole lot more of them.
They're supposedly plastic, not resin, although the terms are becoming more and more interchangeable these days. This first run is all from the Legendary Encounters line (that appears to have been pulled form the site) which were prepainted plastic versions of existing Dark Heaven pewter line and of similar quality and material to the D&D minis. I'm guessing they just put different plastic into the molds they already had set up and skipped the painting sweatshops to see how the market reacts. I'm a bit impressed at the price for what you get, it's not quite the quality of the Dark Heaven line but the price is even better than the prepaints, which were pretty cheap.
And of course, no release is complete without a cheesy retro style commercial

I love how they are smart enough to avoid the "Is it plastic/resin?" arguments by calling it what it actually is. Plastic...resin...they are just delicious long chain POLYMERS. At least they had the forethought to not get caught up in all that nonsense. And with Reaper prices and attention to actual quality, I am looking forward to them doing more aggressive sculpts after this market testing run is done.
The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.
I buy from reaper whenever possible. I would love for someone to post a review on these models vs the old metal versions of the same miniatures. From what I can tell, they certainly don't have the air bubble problems, or the squishiness of the finecast models.
This hasn't really been discussed much in this thread either, but the fact that they are DROPPING the price of the same miniatures in this new format could be a very interesting discussion piece in and of itself compared to GW's model of increased prices for lower quality miniatures.
I also want to give a special shout out to reaper miniatures for their dedication to gamers. Almost every Saturday you can go up to reaper miniatures in Denton and learn to paint from their professional painters for free. All you have to do is buy one mini I think. They have a full store front when you walk into the building. I spent a Saturday up there and learned quite a bit about painting that day.
There has existed, for quite some time, a polymer plastic that you can heat and spin cast just like metal. You can use the same moulds as for metals with the same casting equipment.
It took a few years after tin prices went through the roof for companies to start looking at it again.
I'm definitely going to buy some of these to see how they compare to the metals I have of the same ones. The cave troll & werewolf are still some of my favorite sculpts reaper has ever done.
Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.
I appreciate the cheap figs - none of those are of any use to me, but if they start putting out some of their more interesting stuff that way I'll probably buy. Especially if they're available at Miniatures-Giant prices.

Yeah, i might have avoided that but well, I think they have had a chance to read the threads about the one company and the issues, and decided to test things out so as to avoid the nerd rage getting sent their way. Actually smart of them and as others have added, likely if this works, they can start making more bold models in their polymer casts. looks like they are either using a new spin cast method, or they have also gone and got pressure molds like FW

I really like Reaper. The mold lines are always--ALWAYS--a pain to clean up, but after that they're always fun to paint, and they do some neat weird models. While boxes of really much better GW plastics sit unpainted, I keep dropping by the FLGS after work to pick up some odd Reaper priest or monster, and they always get painted.
I'm ordering a couple of these (the purple worm and ghost, possibly the skeletons). I'd rather see some of their more exciting miniatures in this line, but these are outstanding prices and when something's that cheap I'll forgive a lot.
Quite a lot of my Inquisitorial warband are Reaper minis I worked at some conversions, some more major than others.
